Frame/Performance Engineeringbacked Ronnie Tichenor grabbed the holeshot, with Barry Carsten, Jeremy Shuttleworth, Tyson Hadsell and Chase Reed following. Tichenor quickly pulled away from the 24-rider field. On lap two, Pocorobba slipped his way into fourth, just in front of Reed. With Tichenor alone out front, Carsten, Hadsell, Pocorobba, Reed, Scott Carter and Tony Lorusso freight-trained around the Hardrock course until Pocorobba motored by Hadsell and Carter for second. Carsten then bobbled, and Hadsell and Carter moved by. Lorusso stepped up the pace and zapped Carsten, who fell, and then Hadsell on the last lap. Tichenor cruised home for the easy win over Pocorobba, Lorusso, Hadsell and Carsten. Kyle Farnell led the pack into turn one to start moto two as Carsten, Pocorobba and Shuttleworth gave chase. Tichenor started about seventh, but he quickly moved into fifth halfway through the opening lap. • Then, entering an off-camber hill turn, Tichenor clipped another rider's rear tire and fell all the way down the hill. Tichenor remounted in 12th. Pocorobba had his sights set on the leader, Farnell. Pocorobba moved into second on lap two and then pushed Farnell wide in a turn to take the lead. With a clean track in front of him, Pocorobba clicked off some consistent laps on his J. Toledo Suzuki to open up a healthy lead, ahead of Farnell, Carsten and Carter. Meanwhile, Tichenor was on the gas, moving into fifth at the halfway point of the 15-minute-plus-two-lap. moto. Tichenor then pressed by Carter and then Carsten for third. With three laps to go, Tichenor passed Farnell for second. Lorusso closed in on Carter, Carsten and Farnell. Lorusso knew that time was against him, and he quickly displaced Carter and Carsten in one lap. On the final circuit, Lorusso flew by Farnell for third. Pocorobba sailed across the finish line to score the easy win over Tichenor, Lorusso, Farnell and Carter. Pocorobba's 2-1 tally topped Tichenor's 1-2 showing. Pocorobba later returned to win the 250cc A contest with a 2- 1 score over Reed (1-2), and then he used a consistent 2-2 score to win the 125cc A race over Reed, who posted a 4-1 tally. Pocorobba's only defeat came in the 125cc Pro division, in which Answer/FMF/Planet Honda pilot Matt Walker won. Walker used a 3-1 score to beat Pocorobba, who carded a 4-2 score. The first moto was won by Lorusso, but a fall and a bad start in moto two held him to sixth overall. DGY rider David Oettel finished third on his stock CR125; Oettel went 2-5 for the day. Tichenor won all four motos in the Over 25 and Over 30 classes. McCoy and Mike Segundo. Michael Remer was fourth, over John Traveres, Larry Pacini, Alex Chellew and Vince Macias. The best race of the day was in the 250cc division. Danny Blair took the early lead, only to give up and let his dad, Randy Blair, ride a few laps, ostensibly so Dad would know the track for the last race. David Duacte quickly picked up the pace and led for three laps, until Danny got Dad off the bike and closed the gap to regain the lead and take the checkers. Matt Fowler was not too far behind and just barely in front of Shane Wheaton, with Jeff Marsh fifth. Jimmy Lewis was in touch with the front-runners for most of the race, bailing once and finishing sixth, over Bill Lea, Jeremy Mills, Eric Natenstedt and Darin Bishop. In the final event, AMA National Amateur champ Tony Meiring took the top 125cc spot afte.r a battle with Ben Perez and Chris Harless. Randy Blair proved his recon laps had been useful by winning his portion over Dennis Hannel and Greg Kamhulz. eN Sand Hill Ranch Brentwood, California Resuhs:Januaryl,2000 orr: 1. By JEFF DAVENPORT PHOTO BY ERICA GOSSETT UNION POINT, GA, DEC. 19 , Moose/Motosports-backed Rod Stuckey came, saw and conquered at the inaugural Cracker Hare Scrambles, held on spacious Durhamtown Plantation. Some 275 loyal off-road racers tried out the 5700 acres of Mother Nature's finest provided for them at round nine of the SETRA Championship Hare Scrambles Series. Several questions ran through the minds of the riders: Would it rain? What would the traction be like? What was that Civil War cannon doing parked next to the start? With plenty of rain the week prior to the event, everyone knew the possibility of a mudfest was high, but as the
