Upon be ing bumped up to the Over 40 Expe rt division, Siddall proved that decision was co rrect wi th a second-place finish in the second heat. but only after tangling with Dave Vicioso (2- D N F). Roundin g the last t urn to ta ke t he w hite flag. t he pair banged bar s. and Vicioso highsided hard and was laid out for the remainde r. Siddall tried to chase down Ross thom pson, but th e latter had a good two-turn lead and eas ily loc ked up t he overall o n a I- I tally. Things heated up ear ly in t he com bine d O ve r 40 Amateur a nd No vice ra ce . Staged riders watched in disbelief fro m the sta rting line as the wate r truck dug a deep tren ch across the sta rt approac h and then got st uck in th e first tu r n. Th e bu lldoze r came to t he re scue and "smoo thed things over," but by th en the already high te mpe rat ure s had wilted mor e than on e rider. O nce racing res umed , Siddall dominated the fir st Am at eur moto. Kenny Ca mpbe ll ran a strong second fo r two laps but the n faded . Mike Mar e k capit alized an d pulled o ut to an ea sy second-place finish. Mare k got the mot e -two holeshot , with Steve Phillips in pursuit, but the pair bo bbled o n the fourth lap, allowing Steve Kast ne r t o st ea l t heir th under. Phillips (3-2) sco red the overall, with Marek (2- 3) se co nd and Kastner (6- 1) third . Mark Toguchi, Don jensen and jim Lascola waged a t h re e -w a y brawl in t he O ve r 40 Novice contest. Toguchi put in one of his be st rides of t he seas o n and won both o utings for the overail, over je nsen (2-2) and Lascola (3-3). Rob e rt Dykmans pulled o ut huge leads by th e midway po int of bo th O ve r SO Amateur he at s, but ha rdly anyo ne notice d due to the heated batt le be t w e en joe Red (3 -3 ) an d George Spearing (4-4) . In mota on e , Spear ing came through the first turn in a strong secon d, with Red nipping at his rear kno bby. Tony Duni (2-2) slipped by as the pair con tinued to swap positions througho ut th e s ix- lap he at . Red pulled t he second- mota holeshot and he ld t he lead for two laps, but again Dykmans and Duni powe r ed pa st. Bac km a r ke rs prohi b ite d Spearing from getting d ose e nough to Red to co ntinue their duel. Bruce Hoo ver jumped ou t fro nt in the first O ve r 60 Am ate ur mota . Ho wever, his reign was short-lived , as Phil Black passed him sho rtly into the first lap. In mo ta two, Black puiled out fro nt and neve r looked back. Black ( I- I) was first , Hoove r (2-2) was se co nd , and Denni s Rosenbe rg was a d ose third. Den ise deVines nabbed the ho le shots and both Over SO Novice moto wins, though she's still re cover ing fro m a knee injury. Not far beh ind her was Asker Lar nkjae r, ahead o f a hard-charging Bob Alloy. In the O ld-Timers' on go ing qu es t to keep racing fun, last-place finishers were treated to bo xes of Girl Sco ut cookie s at th e finish e s, w hile ho le shot stars received certificates fo r Scott goggles. 40 + NOV: I. By JUSTIN WHARTON ac e fa ns were greete d with aw e som e weather at Woodland Motocross Park, and some equally awesome racing e ns ue d! T he Before Th e Hill cla ss had some int e re st ing act ion, and o ut of every one , from the Beginne rs to the Pros, the man of the day was , amazingly, 12Scc junior contestant Nick Schmidt. In the first mota, Sean "Sparky" Sparkman, j o shu a jo hnso n and Sch mid t too k the to p position s. Schmidt moved up to do batt le with Sparkman, and to everyone's utt er amazement, he passe d one of Was hington State's up-andcomi ng Pro s. Spa r km an . in t he bowl turn! Spa rk ma n re ta liate d , ge tti ng by Sc hmid t through some straig htaways. Schmidt answered back, getting Spark man at t he same co rner as on the lap before! This time, Schmidt held on to first with a grip of iro n, leaving Sparkman in the du st . Wh e n the checke rs ca me o ut , Schm idt took the win with a huge gap over Sparkm an, in second. Johnson placed third . R 64 It was easy going for Schmidt in the second me te, as Sparkman suffered a DNF. In second was johnson, followed by Yamaha riders Chris Fokas and Travis jamison . Schmidt too k an easy win, followed by joh nso n, Fokas, jamison and josh Broc k. Schmidt ( I- I) to ok the overall w in, johnson (3 -2) to ok second , a nd rou nd ing out t he pod ium was Fo kas ( 7-3) . Fo u rth wen t t o jamison (8-4), and Ave ry Rogers (6-6) finished fifth. Andy Richards continued his domination of the 80cc classes, adding yet ano ther pe rfect day to his record. Richards won both motos of the 80cc Junio r and Sup e r m ini cla sses, an d he seems to be in class of his own . Tak ing the r unne r- up pos iti o n in t he ju nior class was Suzuki-mounted Nathan Tee l (2-2) , and taking third was Matt hew Col man (4- 3) . Finishi ng fo urt h and fifth were C amero n Phillips (6-4) and Bra nd o n Kallberg (3-7) , re sp e c t ive ly.
