Spring C reekMX Sorenson soars to Super Series success By Geo rge and Karen Hodkin son MILLVILLE, MN,SErf. 5 Rusty Sorenso n of Mazeppa, Mi n nesota, took hom e top honors in the Vet A class wi th 1-1 finishes on his big CR500. Some 437 entra nts mad e it d own to the Sprin g Cre e k MX facil ity' for round six of the Super Series. With temperatures in the upper 60s, the track was the absolute bes t of the season th us far. At the sta rt of the firs t Ve t A moto, YZ2S0 pilot Dan Mar cott e grabbed the holeshot. Marcotte has been at the front of the pack a ll season long in the cla ss a fte r bein g absen t fro m th e sport for mor e than a d ecad e. He led for the first half of lap one, until Tim Bemloehr pushed his RM250 into the lead. Sorenson was third , Scott Ruegg was four th and Scott Stein le fifth. By the third lap , Sor enso n had moved past Marcotte into third . On the fourth lap, Sorenson and Marco tte go t the adva n tage on Bern loeh r, w ho relinquishe d h is lea d in th e sand -w ash whoops. Sorenson an d Marco tte we n t on e-two in th e mo to. Steinle moved in to third. Bernloe hr took fourth, with Ruegg fifth. In th e second mo to , Sor en son n ailed th e holeshot, practically laying the bike sid eways flat-tra ck-sty le as he ou tgunned Stein le. By the end of the first lap , Sorens on had a comma ndi ng lead on Steinle a nd the res t of the tz-rtder field . Marcotte a nd Bemloe hr ra n third an d fourth, with Scott Cripps fifth and Ruegg sixth . The top six remained in that order for the rest of the rnoto, and Sorenson claimed the ove rall convineingly. In t he You th class, N a tha n Brough ton of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, took the class win via a 2-1 finish over Matt [u d nick from Duluth , Minnesota. Broug hton, who recently moved up to the A class, gra bbed the holeshot in front of the I a-rtde r field ove r [udrdck, Kyle Schantzen, Jesse Johnso n, Brad Gue tter and the rest of the fiel d . On th e firs t lap , ju d n ick emerged t he lead e r , w ith Br ou ghton fou r t h , behi nd Schantzen and Johnson. Judn ick we n t on to take the win with ease on his Arnsoil-ba cked YZ125, with Broug h ton movin g back up into second . johnson took thir d, with Schant zen fou rth and josh Carlson fifth . In the secon d moto, Brou gh ton again pow e red h is CR l25 in to the lead, with Jud nick, Geutter and Adam Dally following. Judnic k followed as closely as possible, but he just cou ld n't mak e th e m ove a rou nd th e e xp e r ie nced Brou ght on , who took the mota and overall win .
