Lei ker led most of th e 20-la p race, however Cl ark pulled of f the win by passi ng Lei ker lat e in the even t, Mike Rochester foll owed in thi rd. At o ne poin t Barb acovi bega n to pull away, bu t he retir ed from th e ra ce a t th e ha lfway point, due to a loose front break cabl e. O n the fina l lap , Su lek mad e o ne la st effo rt to pa ss, b ut Sh oem ak er foiled his pl an and da rted away to the win. Sulek followed in seco nd and Cliff Oaks ro unded o ut the top th ree. '0 Yamaha-mounted Mike Harris powered th e early lead followed closely by Kawasaki rider Sonny Mitchell and Honda rider Bob Gerken. Gerken was soo n around Mitchell and a few comers later railed pas' Harris and into the lead. Harris and Mitchell fought over second until Harris went down in a tight com er, handing the p-"sition to ' Mitchell. Harris remounted in fifth and managed to work ba ck up to th ird behind Gerken and Mi tch ell a' the end of the moto. Harris once again took control off th e start in moto two with Mitchell and Gerken it to w, Gerken once aga in wasted no time in getting around the front two a nd went on to tak e th e win. Mitchell hounded Harris for second th e entire moto until the final lap wh en Harris bobbled in a co m er and gave Mitch ell th e o pport un ity he needed to take over second with Harris fin ishing third.
