Mark Brooks (Han). phce, Majeski get first wins at Trai'·Way ST B' Len Breech i / H AN O VER , PA, OCT. 10 Georgie Price and Rob Majeski took their first wins of th e '87 season as Trail-Way Speedway finally got a short track even t in after four stra ight rain -o uts in the last two months. While Pri ce was holding off th e challenges of Dal e Gingrich to tak e the .250cc Expert final, Maj eski took the lead from Tom Cerciello and went o n to win the 600cc Expert class. Pr ice put his ' Diamond Motorspo rts Kaw asaki in third behind Gingrich a nd Da ve Lesni ck as tilt' 2:'0<:(' Expert s WI'IIl down th e back straight, bUI Price motored into th e lead heIore thl' end of th e open in g lap. Cerc iello grabbed the lead from Maj eski, Gingrich a nd Ken Coolbeth as, the 600cc Experts completed the first la p . After a few laps Majeski a nd Cerciello p ulled a littl e in front of G ingrich who got into a battle with Coolbeth, Tom Majeski and J im H o ll is te r for third that lasted throughout most of the race. Ro b Majeski took the lead at th e end of the third la p , while brother Tom took command of the third p lace battle two la ps from the end. Closest finish of th e evening was th Senior final , as Rich ard Foard ~e and Harold Hillard pulled away fro';" Joe H eberling and Bob Babcock . During th e entire eight laps, Foard and Hillard were separa ted by no more than two lengths, and coming off the fourth turn on the final la p , Hillard got a little better drive, nipping Foard by in ches. While Harold Dorsey and Dave Smith took yet another win in th e 250 and 600cc Amateur classes, the best race was the 200cc Amateurs when Kevin Varnes took his first win in th e class . Brian Strong took the lead in front of Mike Walton, J ill Lau tenbacher and Varnes who were close ly bunched in the early laps, taking th e lead fro m Strong as they exited the second turn o n the sixth la p. Walton got by Strong in the same spot on the following lap. Mi ke Sponseller made a shambles of the combined 85 Expert/85 Amateur /65cc class as he ran off and hid froin the field. Saturday the club used their speed hi ll. On Sunday O le Ugl y was used. The event marked the close of the Distri ct 17 hillclimbing season. Wisconsin rid ers claimed six cla ss win s on Saturday and four o n Sunday. They also had three two-day winners, claiming the most victories during th e weekend. J eff Pi ontek, fro m Wisconsin, scored three overall win s for th e weekend. Hi s firs t win came in th e 200cc class on Saturday when he was th e first rid er over the hill. Hi s time was 8.12 seconds on a Kawasaki. Kal eb Northrup, sponsored b y Torque Center, was the onl y o the r rid er in th at clas s to go over. Hi s Yam aha ca rried him up in 10.74 seco nds. Piontek came back in th e 250cc class riding another Ka wasa ki. H is first tim e would have taken the win but he ca me back to better his tim e with a 5.85 rid e. H is fa ther Mel ca me . in second p lace with a first . ro und rid e of 7.35. Mel was also on a Kawasaki, J eff Piontek 's third win came on O Il' Ug ly during Sunday's climb.
