Sadowski, Williams win at Willow Springs RR By Valerie Peeler ocr. 30 W ..J W . ROSAMOND, CA, 18 To no one's surprise, one of the multipl e winn ers at th e ARRA Willow Springs eve nt was New Hampshire's David Sadowski - the rider who placed second to Doug Polen in the GSXR II 00 Series final e at Riverside Raceway the previous week. This time, mounted aboard th e Yoshimura Suzuki GSXR that Kevin Schwantz rode to a second place in the AMA Superbike National Championship, Sadowski took the wins in the Open Superstreet and Formula One classes . In the Racer's Supply-sponsored Open Superstreet race , GSXR rider Kenny Kopecky got one of his typically great starts, leading'for half a lap before Sadowski overtook him in the exit of tum four. After th ispass, Sadowski's lead was never threatened as he pulled away from th e other riders in what appeared to be an effortless ride, posting .Iap tim es in the low I:30s. Kopecky was able to maintain his second place position, and, in spite of being prodded from time to time by Chuck Magnusson, also - on a GSXR, his position was nev er seriously threatened. Kopecky again took the immediate lead in the Formula One race, but this time held it for only a short tim e before the powerful co mbina tion of David Sadowski and the Yoshimura Suzuki rolled by a second time. As before, Sadowski rode to an undisputed win, this time turning laps consistently in the low 1:29s. Though he was not able to co ntest the lead Yamaha-mounted Earl Roloff, this year 's ARRA number one rider, did manage to put himself in second and turn nearly the sam e lap times as Sadowski, lagging only' " abo u t,l half a second on each lap. Kopecky, though a good distance behind Roloff, brought his Suzuki in to a second top-three position for the day. Among the smaller di splacement classes, Ben Williams regained some of the authority he held earlier this season when he rode his Bob Brookstuned, ICRT/ Shoei/Ma tzinger Ra cing/Fox-sponsored Kawasaki 250 Ninja to three effortless victories before being sidelined in his fourth race by a broken chain. . Consistent lap tim es in the I:42s earned Williams the wins in the 305cc Modified Producti on, 305cc Superstreet a n d 450 cc Modified Production Four-Stroke classes and a total of $1500 of Kawasaki contin. gency money. The end of his winning streak cam e a t th e start of th e 450cc Superstreet Four-Stroke cla ss when his Ninja's chain succumbed to the stress of the start ing line and failed at th e master link, forcing him to park the bike before reaching turn one. In all three classes, Williams held a commanding lead over the struggles behind him. Willie Sarzi, however, kept himself in th e thick of those tussles, battling in the 305cc Modified Production class wi th points leader Joe Solis, with Chuck Graves (who had a lready won the 750cc Superstreet and 750cc Stock Production races that day ) in the 305cc Superstreet cla ss, and then again with Solis in th e 450cc Modified Production Four-Stroke class. LOD!, CA, 9 Tonight began the first of a three week series on the Ultra Short Track at the Lodi Cycle Bowl, in which Mark Key took the 250cc Expert class main win. In the 250cc Expert heats, Key ' rammed his Yamaha into the lead just ahead of Steve Raymond, riding hard on a Honda. Mark Butler and Adam Sabedra battled it out for third and fourth with Sabedra, riding a Honda, edging ahead of Butler on the last lap. In the main, Key again grabbed the holeshot with Raymond right behind him. Butler held on to third for the first few laps, but' Sabedra finally managed to pull around him. Dean Brooks, on a Suzuki, headed for the pits when he developed bike problems, while Key put more and more distance between himself and second place rider Raymond. There were four heats of 500cc Experts. In the first one, Andy Tresser took his Yamaha to the checkered flatg, well ahead of Frank Sanchez also on a Yamaha. In the second heat, it was Bobby McDowell all the way on his Bob Coddsponsored Honda. Jose Aquilar, riding a Harley-Davidson, held on to second until Danny Cahoon managed to slide his Rotax around Aquilar LO take over the second spot. Steve Maytield, riding a Rotax, grabbed the holeshot and stayed there in the third heat. Steve Raymond made a great pass around him on his own Rotax. Mayfield slid off the track which allowed Kris Kiser to take over the second spot on his . Honda. The fourth heat caught Ricky Smith grabbing the lead on a Honda. However, Bob Damon, astride his Rotax soon got around him to take over first with Adam Sabedra, on a borrowed Harley, staying right on his back tire to grab second. In the main, Sanchez took the early lead with Tresser a close second and Kiser working hard LO keep ahead of McDowell to hold on to third. Sanchez went down along with Smith and the race was restarted. This time, Tresser got the best shot while Sanchez moved in behind him. Smith went down just after the halfway point and the race was restarted again, only this time, it was a stagger start. Tresser grabbed the checkered for first while Kiser came in second with McDowell a close 'th ird, Resu lts . PIW B: 1. Kenny Schneider (Vam); 2. Aaron . Gayle (Vam); 3. Parks picks up win at Ascot Motocross I By Ken Faug ht GARDENA, CA, OCT. 16 Chris Parks withstood the pressure from Daniel Downen and Jon Rol stad and went on to tak e the overall win in the 250cc Beginner class-at Ascot. In the first moto Rolstad got the holeshot followed by Parks, Randy Hallowell , and Honda-mounted Rony Ratliff. Parks picked off Role stad and moved into the lead. A battle started to stir up between Ratliff and Hallowell with the two banging bars for several laps. Ratliff eventually passed Hallowell and set after Rolstad. On the fourth lap Ratliff pitched his Honda, dropping to 12th and advancing Hallowell to third. When the checkered flag fell it was Parks with the win ahead of Rolstad, Hallowell, and Yamaha-rider Jim Williams . In the second round it was Downen who led Parks, Ron Messman, and Rolstad around the first corner. Rolstad quickly passed Messman and set after Parks. On the third . lap Downen dropped LO second as Parks cruised on by before the finish line turn. While Parks was passing Downen, Kawasaki-rider John Hamacher ' passed Messman. Parks went on to take a narrow win over Downen, Rolstad and Hamacher. Parks I-I gave him the overall, a 23 score earned Rolstad second, and 5-2 finishes gave Downen third, In the 80cc Beginner class it was Honda-pilot Richie Sherman who holeshot William Riley, Matt Wilson and John Ruiz. Ruiz wasted no time as he quickly passed Wilson and, began looking for Riley. Towards ) th e middle of the race Ruiz started ' to tire, allowing Wilson to catch up. 1 On the final lap Ruiz crashed and fell to fourth while Sherman took the moto win, Riley was a close second, and Wilson managed third. Sherman gated perfectly in moto two and slowly began to pull away from Ruiz, Riley and Wilson. On the second lap Ruiz did a spectacular flying-W off of the tabletop jump resulting in a painfully bruised leg. Nearing the halfway point in the race Marcus Falconieri had moved up to fourth and began LO pursue Riley. Before the end of the race Riley had faded back to sixth, allowing Falconieri third. At the finish Sherman took the win over Wilson, Falconieri and Dion Brown. Sh erman claimed the overall followed by Wilson, . Falconieri and Riley. Results 60: 1. Jason Shirey (Kaw); 2.
