Riding a 1985 Kawasaki, H ytrek held off th e charges of overall winner Jeff Dishman wh o was on a brand new 1988 H onda a t Creston, Rouh rem ounted in third a nd held his po siti on to th e finish . In moto two, H ytrek smo ked the start to lead th e pack. Dishman hounded H ytrek for four laps and blasted by for th e lead . H ytrek tried to regain hi s position, but crashed big tim e on a fast off-cam ber. Dishm an too k an easy win, wh ile H ytrek sus tained a bad cu t a nd did not . fini sh . Rouh held down third until he crashed, giving John Deegan second. Rouh sal va ged a si x th; Dishman took the o vera ll , and Shane Hinze was th ird . Denny Stephenson smoked hi s competition, taking all four of his rnotos in the Expert cla sses. In the 125cc As, Stephen son took both hol eshots with Mark Bolten a close second. This was Bolten 's first race since he broke hi s colla rbo ne severa l weeks ago. Bolten maintained an impressive second throughout both rnotos. The best dicing was for third as J ohn Weber , Brian Sorensen , Bob Lowry and Marvin Henricksen had a fierce battle. Sorensen finall y took third by th e end of both motos. Results MINI SR: 1. Moto one started with Eckstin e o ut front and a threeway Kawasak i battl e for second between Bill Koleno, Alan Bat es and Kell y J ohnson . Koleno moved ahead and held second th rough th e fin al la p as Batesa nd J ohnson swa pped places. Kol eno moved up within strik ing distance of Eckstine with bo th ride rs go ing down in the heat of th e battle. Eckstine was up qu ickl y enough to hold his lead wiih Johnso n ro uting in to second. Koleno filed in behind J ohnson but was docked a lap for cu tting the track. Bat es was awa rded third. In mot o two, Bates, J ohnson and Ecksti ne held th e top three spots th rough midmoto wh en Bat es fell in a sweepe r a nd rejoined th e race in th ird. Zweifel zaps Expe rts at Meadowla,ks'MX By Peggy Adamic AMH ERST, OH , OCT. 1I Yama ha rider Vern Zweifel rode to th e overall win in th e 125/ 250/0pen Expert class a t Amh erst Meadowlarks Motorcycle Clu b in Am her st. Ohio. Zweifel took 2-I moto finishes en ro ute to hi s victory in th e Meadowlarks' fin al motocross of th e seaso n. Moto o ne of the combi ned Expert class belon ged to H onda-mounted Brian Smith as' he took the wire-towir e win. Ken Frankenb ery trail ed Smith to th e first turn but became a Victim of th e slick, muddy trac k conditions and found him self in last pl ace. Art J ackson took con tro l of second with Zwifel ro u ting in to th ird. Midwa y int o the race , Sm ith was out to a 20-second lead while Zweif el pressu red J ack son for second. Brunswick Suzuki rider Dave Fletterick held fourth whi le Frankenb ery mot ored into fifth . With th ree laps to the checkere d flag Zweifel passed J ackson and Flenerick moved to with in a bik e len gth of J ackson at th e fini sh wi th Frankenb ery holding fifth. J ackson led th e pack of riders through th e first tu rn to start mo w two. Zweifel had passed J ackson with Franken berry go ing pas t also a halflap later. While Zweifel sho t ou t to a lO-second lead Fra nkenbery and J ackson rode a seesaw battl e fo r second. Frankenb ery was passed but rode back into second wh en Jackson went down. J ackson was up and . going quick enoug h to hold third with Sm ith moving to within striking distan ce. Zweifle held a three second lead over Frankenbery at th e checkers and Smith moved by J ackson to take thi rd for second overa ll. Ken Novak was the overa ll winner in th e 250cc C class. Steve " Wilmo" .Wilmington chase d Novak through th e first turn and th roughout th e five laps of moto on e. In moto two, Novak o nce again h ad hi s Honda to th e first turn ahead of Wilmington, Eri c Lough and J ohn Kreps. Wilm ington fell in turn one. Kreps 'q uickly took second from Lough while Wilmington started pi cking off th e riders ahead of him. With on e lap to the finish Novak was o u t to a 15-second lead . Wilmin ~ton had mov ed to within striking distance of Kreps and then pa ssed him to take secon d . Kreps hel d third whil e Lough filed under th e checkers in fourth. Holden hot at Cla,k County ST By Derryl Anderson RIDG EFIELD, WA, OCT. 16 H onda-m ounted Matt Holden barely held o ff Ryan and Rex Fisher to clai m the overall victory in the 250cc P ro class of th e sho rt track held in t he Cl a rk County Fairground s Indoor Arena. A huge turnout of riders sho we d up for tonight 's op ener , and the track got a bit rough but actio n was terrific. In th e heat race Holden got the holesh ot followed by Ryan Fisher, brother Rex Fisher, th en Bill T aylor, Del Sc h n i tzer, a nd Kev in Bas s; H ol den began to pull aw ay from the others whil e Rex Fisher push ed broth er Ryan all o ver th e track look in g for an o peni ng. Finally on la p six Ryan made a bobble and Rex flew underneath, taking Schnitzer w ith him . R yan Fi sher had a mec ha nica l problem and dropped back two more spots. Wh en. the checkered flag came out the order was H olden , R ex Fisher, Schnitzer, T aylor, Bass arid Ryan Fisher. In the m ain event ch n i tzer ju mped the line, sending him to the back row . On th e restart Holden got the scratch ahead of Taylor, Rex Fisher, Ryan Fisher, Schnitzer and Bass. This time Ryan Fisher was all over you nger brother Rex. Ryan tried .the in side then the outside, pushing and shoving but nothing worked. Finally on lap four Rex came into turn three a little too hot and slid out. Meanwhile Holden was cruising away with the lead. A lap later Ryan Fish er started to push Taylor and the du o changed positions twi ce per lap ' with Fisher finall y taking control on lap six. Holden was £lawless all night as the checkered flag cam e out. Behind him in orde r was Ryan Fishe r, T aylor, Schnitzer, Rex Fisher a nd Bass. In th e Open Pro cla ss heat race Schni tzer got th e sera tch ahead of Troy Ro se, Paul Newman, Taylor, Jim Perry , Ron Adams and Rex Fisher. Schnitzer went out to a 10 yard lead on Rose, wh o had 15 yards on the o the rs. Rex Fisher was charging throu~h th e pack and by la p three was til third pressu ring Rose. The position s remained th e same a t th e checkered fla g with Schnitzer leading Rose, Fisher, T aylor, Newman and Adam s. In th e main event Sch ni tzer got the lead and went wir e to wire. Behind him was Rose, Rex Fisher, T aylo r, Perr y, Newm an and Adams. Rex Fisher was all over Rose but he couldn' t find 'an openi ng. Tay lor went down i n . tu r n fou r and Schnitzer continued to run away with no pro blems. At th e finish it was Schnitzer, Rose, Fisher, Perry, Newm an and Ada ms. Res u lts . 50 : 1. Paul Polhemus ca me in seco nd w h i le Yam ahamounted Doug J on es and T im Selby battled it o ut for third with Selby getting the edge on J ones on th e white flag lap. ,; Sha wn Freiling £lew in first in the · . 250cc Jun io r-Expert cl ass whil e Daryle Yount and Tom my Knight, both ridi ng Suzu kis came in t~ ird and fourth, respectiv ely. In th e 500cc Novice class T on y Souza and Alan Loredo tied for first place po ints, but th e win was given to Souza for winning th e second mota. Both riders put on an excellent show for the cro wd. Brad Huffer brought his KTM in for a close third whil e H onda -m ounted Cl ark Plummer was o ver th e line for . fourth. Gate one con tained th e 125cc bikes while gate two was made up of .the 250cc and Open class machines. s When th e first gate fell Yoshi Yamamoto pulled quickly to the fr ont of the h erd with Keriny Sommer, Marc Mat son and Yamahamounted Lance Mason close behind.
