York, Cordova dice at Mosier Valley By Marc Jenkins EULESS, TX, MAR. 14 Paul York and Nick Cordova traded moto wins in the 250cc Expert class during Mosier Valley night track MX, with York getting the overall with the second moto win. In moto one, Cordova (Trail West Hon) took the holeshot and never looked back, while York (Kaw) stayed close on the first few laps but eventually settled for second. The battle for third was hotly contested between Mike Bruce Jr. (Yam), Tim Silence (Han) and Dean Lane (KTM) as all three riders battled tooth 'n' nail with Silence getting the nod at the checkers. Moto two saw York get away first followed by Steve Reavis (Kaw) and Cordova. York pulled away quickly as Cordova began having troubles getting around Reavis. Lane, having gated poorly, was quickly moving through traffic for fourth on lap .three. Cordova powered by Reavis and set out after York. At the halfway point, Cordova passed York in the rough whoop section, but York slammed the door in the following corner. By this time, Lane had disposed of ·Reavis with a beautiful midair pass and was right on the leaders. As time ran out, it was York, Cordova and Lane at the finish. A fu II class of l25cc Beginners promised lots of thrills and spills as they began to work their way around tl'!e supercross-style track. In moto one, Phil Ernst (Kaw) got away from the confusion early and was never contested for the lead. Mike Ritter was second with a good come-frombehind ride and Joey Markern took third. Troy Lamb (Hon) finished fourth. In moLO two, Joe Jay (Yam) got the holes hot with Lamb, Ernst and Dwayne Blue (Yam) in tow. In the second turn, there was a massive pile up, taking out some of the leaders from moto one. On the white flag lap, Jay threw the lead away by falling and remounted around 10th place. This left Ernst and Lamb to ballie for the lead, four corners from the finish, Lamb out-braked Ernst in a slow corner making the stunned Ernst bobble, lelling Lamb, Blue by for first and second. Ernst settled for third but still got the overall. The first 250cc Novice moto, saw Eddie Sims (Suz) take the holeshot followed by Steve Jones (Kaw), Randy Mansell (Kaw)-and the quickly improving Eddie Puyear (Yam) to battle for second. On the last lap, Puyear passed Mansell for third to set the finishing order. The second molO was the Eddie Sims show. He got the holeshotagain and quickly disappeared. This time second place was more hotly contested a~ J o~ 1:I~l\se~ t':!!ew his,h'!t 0. f~e -nng forcing Mandell and Puyear into mistakes for second; Puyear in third, and Mansell in fourth. CA 91506 ~_(818) 845-8738_~ RGSOO NS400 By Marty Gregory CALDWELL, 10, MAR. 8 Kit Farley (BSA) overtook and passed young wrestler/racer_ Troy Norris to grab the Open Expert main at the OMC's latest . I ..... .~ Stock INFORMATION CALL: Farley, Anderson split Idaho ST Indoor Short Track Series evenL With the win, Farley moves into the Open points lead ahead of Rod Reynolds and Ricky Henson. Farley's bid to double was thwarted by Honda of Caldwell/Nampa Cycle Salvagesponsored Terry Anderson (Hon) who won the 250cc Expert main after nipping Rich Hayman (Hon). The 500cc race was a little mellower than recent clashes. The boys all got off the line without a pile-up or restart with Troy Norris, gassing an "engine with everything" Honda stroker, assuming an immediate lead and pulling away from the pack. Farley, Reynolds, Henson and company motored around in Norris' wake and, toward the latter stages of the race, er9ded his lead. Farley got.by with a couple laps to go and held on for the win while Troy (back on the track after concentrating on his high school wrestling) finished a popular second. In the 250cc main, it was North Idaho tiger Rich Hayman who got the holeshot and busted loose in the Canyon County Indoor Rodeo Arena. Hayman looked like he had it wired as he circulated smoothly while, first Jeff, then Al Russell crashed themselves out of the race. The younger Russell, AI (Yam), kept going but brother Jeff pushed his Yamaha back to the pits while Hayman led the pack. But hanging on doggedly was the returnjng Terry Anderson. A Homedale native aboard the only four-stroke on the track, Anderson made his first foray in a long time a profitable one as he waited for Hayman to make that one lillie bobble. Rich let his wheel tuck in just a skosh too much one time and Terry went by. Rod Reynolds, on a Miller Products Honda and Troy Norris (Hon) also got by to [inish second and third in the 250cc Pro bucks. Among the smaller skirmishers, Caldwell's own Steve Dorsey (Kaw) edged out Scott McPherson (Hon) to take the Mini B main while Richie Reynolds (Suz) continued his domination of the Expert 80s. Chad Case (Kaw) looked good in his I25cc Expert win and "Dangerous" Denise Alter (Hon) had her moment in the sun Mounting with tina purchase. (Wheel off bike) Tltis is . .
