Kawa aki-mounted Tom Eddington came down from Rainier to go 1-1-1 and dominate
the 80cc c1as of the scrambles
held at the motocross park in Woodland, Washington. It was the best
weather and track conditions of the
year, and Ule majority of riders elected
to run the huge motocross jump in
the middle of the track instead of the
smaller outside jump. The change
made for some thrills, spills and
plenty of excitement.
Eddington got the holeshot in the
first mota to lead Rick Smith, Troy
Hutson and new friend Ryan Anderson. Edding-ton went out to a IS-yard
lead while Hutson pressured Smith
[or second. By lap three Hutson had
passed Smith and the finishing order
was set. At the checkered flag it was
Eddington, Hutson, Smith and Anderson.
'
In moto two Eddington ag-din took
the early lead followed by Hutson,
Anderson and Smith. This time Hutson ran within five yards of Eddington for several laps but was unable to
get by the Kawasaki pilot. Meanwhile Smith and Anderson were dueling for third place. With two laps to
go Smith moved under Anderson on
the sweeper to go into third behind
Hutson. The finishing order ran Eddington, Hutson, Smim and Anderson.
The third and final moto saw Eddingtonjump the line, sending him to
the back row. On the restart, coming
out of me first turn in the lead was
amazingly Eddington followed by
Hutson, Anderson and Smith. Eddington was getting massive air over
the inner jump while Hutson got
close to him on the backstretch.
Hutson was getting ready to make a
move when he dumped il coming off
of the sweeper. Eddington now had a
sizeable lead while Hutson hurried to
get restarted. He was able to do so
without losing a position. With one
lap to go Smith went under Anderson but coming out oftheeast corner
Anderson repaid the favor. Corning
towards the flag Smith squeezed by
Anderson to finally make the pass
stick. In order at the finish it was
Eddington, Hutson, Smith and
Anderson.
In the first moto of the I 25cc class
Glenn Hunter came out in first place
followed by Shawn Plamardar,
Tenino' Eddie Gerrish, Don Blasdell, Chris Clark, Warren Wakefield
and Jeremy Skokan. Hunter was oul
to a 20-yard lead and showing some
excellent style over me jump, several
times landing near the end of the
runout area. Lap-after-lap. the order
stayed the same. With one lap to go,
Gerrish slid under Plamardar for
second. Coming over the jump Hunter did an awesome one-hander and
continued on to the win, followed by
Gerri h, Plamardar, Blasdell and me
others.
In moto two, Hunter was ag-din the
early leader but coming off of the
sweeper and into a tight 1200 left tum
he stalled it in, too high a gear and
Gerrish squeezed past for the lead.
Hunter tartI'd quickly and lost only
one position. Behind Hunter was
Plamardar, Blasdell, Skokan, Chris
Clark and Wakefield. With all of
these 125cc riders so close to each
other it' amazing there were no passes
clear to the finish. Gerrish and Hunter looked very stylish leading the rest
o[ the pack to the flag.
At the start of the third and final
mota it was Hunter getting the holeshot ahead of Gerrish, Plamardar,
Blasdell, Skokan, Clark and Wakefield. In the tight left-hand turn after
the weeper, Gerrish went under
Hunter to take the lead. This time
