The start gate was filled in mo t classes, with approximately 165 riders c11allenging Ocala's dry, lick clay surface. uzuki-mounted Andreu led off the gate in moLO one, with Kenneth Elwood (Kaw), Ray tiIJings (Yam), and Kurt McMillen (Hon) in tow. With a bad start off the gate, Kawasaki-mounted Gary Paul found himself in fifth. On lap two, Andreu opened up distance on the pack, as McMillen blew by Stilling and began LO pressure Elwood. Paul was steadily making progress weaving his way through B riders. Halfway through the moLO, McMillan made a move on Elwood, and set out after the leader. Andreu saw his huge lead dwindle down LO nothing as McMillen came within striking eli tance. At the checkered £lag, time ran out for McMillen and it was Andreu's victory. Elwood experienced problems and dropped back LO finish fifth, while Paul made his way by Elwood and tillings LO finish third. The second moLO, Stillings sLOle the holeshOl, but after one lap, it was Elwood with the lead, followed by Andreu, Paul and, in fourth, Stillings. Paul then got by Elwood, and moved up to give Andreu a hard time. At the checkered £lag it was Andreu first and first overall, followed by Paul and Elwood. Rios and Stillings finished fourth and fifth; McMillan DNF. The large and highly competitive l25cc B class saw Honda-mounted Roger McCullough from ew York jumping out into the lead. followed by Kawasaki rider Roscoe Bartra from Tampa, Wes Keenum (Yam) and Donnie Schmelynn (Yam). On the second lap, Green Bay, Wisconsin's Je(£ Peters moved into the limelight when he zipped by Schmelynn. Keenum and Bartra crashed into each other late in the race, but both recovered LO finish second and third, respectively, as McCullough took an easy checkered £Jag out front. The second timeout, Peters grabbed the holeshOl, with Chuck Sybert (Hon), Bartra and McCullough following. By the second lap, McCullough had styled into second place and was on Peters' rear wheel; Sybert dropped back to fourth. The next time around saw McCullough in the lead, which he held LO the checkers. Peters finished second, Bartra, third. The fir t moLO of the Money class belonged to McMillen for half the race, with Paul his closest competition, followed by Rios, McCullough and Pat Post. Rios overlook Paul, and by the sixth lap, Rios was in command of the lead. Positions held LO the fini h, with the exception of Post, who advanced to fourth. The second Money moLO saw Rios in the lead, with McMillen, McCullough, and Paul in tow. Rios and McMillen ballied hard the entire moLO, but in the end, starting positions held with Rios the winner.
