The firsl main event of the season was the Mini A main and the victor was Jason Matthews. Mauhews topped Joie DePew for the big win. Wayne Frampton, one of the fastest Mini class riders in the area, took the 125cc A main by surprise and won going away on an 80cc machine. FrampLOn beal Tom Higgins to the checkered flag for a total route. Greg Reynard (Han) has always been a terror in the 250cc SporlSman and Pro classes, but was faced with some stiH competition in the form of Jeff Campbell in the 250cc A main event. Reynard stormtrooped the lineup of contestants, beating Campbell, who developed problems and dropped back, letting Carl Ulrich into second. Reynard took the checkered flag for first place brass over Ulrich and Campbell. The race track shook to the sounds of the Open A main event, which signaled to the southern Oregon community the return ohacing. Hansen's Roseburg Honda/Yamaha-sponsored ride boomed into the lead off the off the line, followed by Robert Jokella and Bob Ingel (Han). Hansen led the class through the dog-leg then over the IT's infieldjump to breeze LO his only main event win tonight over Jokella, who held Inge! at bay for second. When the Pro money main contestants wheeled their machines to the starting line, tension was high. Campbell's Hi-Point/Pro-Tech/ Lillie/Simpson Yamaha took the Scratch honors and blitzed into the lead while Hansen and Ingel jockeyed for positions in the early going. Hansen shook off Inge! and rode in pursuit of Campbell. The two rivals see-sawed back and forth until the chips were down. The local Grants Pass rider, Campbell, took the top money prize for first. Lenz magnifies 4ger win By Ron Pendergrass PLACERVILLE, CA, JUNE 2 Yamaha 200-mounted Mitch Lenz edged out Open class rider Brian Beattie to win the 22nd annual Polka Dots-sponsored 4ger enduro. Lenz took the overall win with a score of 27 points. Hondamounted Beattie ended the day with 28 points lost. Only seconds separated third place finisher Richard Adan (29.910), from fourth placer Greg Ferguson (29.959), both in the Open class. Overall honors wasn't the only close racing of the day. Another A class squeaker was for the second place slot in the 250cc class. Again, seconds kept second place Huskymounted Duke Lambert (36.1012) ahead of third place Roy Richard (36.1190), another Husky rider. The Vet A class saw Wayne Hubbard's 34-point loss OUlscore Huskymounted CliH Glidden (Cycle Gear/ KRC/N-D/Terrycable/Serra) by one point to take home the win. In the Senior class, one early minute at check five cost Jerry Kramer the win. Richard Christian's first place score of 42 poinlS was better. Both riders motored on the Husky white.
