Weber gra bbed th e seco nd holesho t j us t in ch es ahead of Slaten . Weber managed 10 keep Slaten second, but o n ly for two exci ting laps. As soon as Slaten had th e lead th e moto could ha ve ended there. Weber cru ised to anothe r flawl ess win fo r fir st overall in hi s class. Although a cra sh on a warm up lap made Jim Co x miss the last two races of the da y, he'd already amassed enough points to cli nc h th e 1983 num ber o ne pl at e for the Southern Nevada Road Racers. T he fir st race of the da y wa s a combin ed 450cc a nd Open Bo x Stoc k class, and Cox starte d th e day by winn in g th e 450's, a class that he's virtuall y domina ted all season long. Meanwhile, in th e Open class, Mik e Williams took a n early lead foll owed by Slim Stephens a nd H enry " Mr. Clean " T ecza . T he dogfi ght betw een Stephen s and T ecza for second pl ace went on until lap seven, wh en Steph en s mad e detour in to the dirt com in g o u t of turn th ree.
