taking this moto, but Thornton did
devdop troubles and dropped to
fourth which wasn't to his liking;
Stacey nearly always wins around Seattle
now that he is Suzuki mounted.
In 250cc Pro racing, Christian blazed
into the pole position followed by yet
another Seattle area rider, Tom Moen
(Skagit Yam) of Burlington, Bruce
Murray and George Bakker (who were
both Honda mounted). Also in the
race were the 250cc B riders,_ who were
run with the Pros. Here at Hannegan
Speedway, the A (Experts) and B (Intermediates) riders all go at it together,
and occasionally there is an enthusiastic
B rider who tangles with the Experts.
In this case it was Jim Walker (Yam)
who was bar to bar with the big boys,
taking first overall in his 250cc B class.
Back to the Experts, Christian
cruised to vi~tory while Moen and Murray were second and third until Bakker
put his Pro-Link. into the hunt, displacing Murray to fourth at the flag.
Christian was unstoppable as he
breezed to the checkered flag in moto
two as well for the overall while Moen
went 2-2 and Murray 4-3 for third.
Christian put his Bellevue Yamaha
rider first into rum one by a ~ikelength
at the start of moto one in the Open
Pro class over Moen and Doug
Kingston (Yam). Moen was hungry for
a win and showed the speed to do it,
but Christian wanted none of that as
the two banged bars constantly throughout the moto. Christian took the moto
win with Moen not far behind as was
Kingston.
Moto two was another excellent
Open bash; Christian got a grip on the
start, and the race was just as good as
over as Christian took the win, proving
to be one of Washington's better Open
riders. Moen, also a fine Open rider,
had to settle for second and second
overall with his 2-2 over Kingston's 3-3.
