Walker AUBURN, WA. AUG. 50 Team Honda reappeared in redoubled force as Mike Spencer and Roberto Pietri used the last regular club race of the season to fine-tune for the upcoming Superbike Pro-Am. The factory teamsten ran one-two in both events they entered - Superbike and Open GP - once again notching the track record downward to stand at 1:29.0. or just over a 91 mph average. ]n Superbike, heat A fell to Spencer and Pietri in fairly good order, with Ray Baker third and Ken Botham fourth. In beat B. Baker. a rookie Superbike Expert from the Seattle area, holeshot his Kawasaki into the lead and held it for two laps before crashing between the tum three and four hairpins. It seems both he and Spencer were carrying the front end in the short downhill chute between the hairpins; Baker told track worken he went to brake for the second tum and hadn't gotten the front wheel back on the ground yet. Meanwhile, Pietri had pitted briefly with a sour engine. Turned out, somebody had jiggled an electrical switch on the handlebar, throwing Pietri's motor onto two cylinden. He went back out to finish third behind Botham, taking second for the day on points. (WMRRA races run two heats per class. motocrols scoring.) In Open GP. the two paraded onetwo ahead of Be1levue Suzuki's Randy Skiver. Skiver, in tum, had it all his way in Open Cafe, finishing the ftnt heat of that class 20 seconds ahead of Keith Pinkstaff. who had a similar lead over a clump of contenden for third place including (among othen) Pat Marinacci, John Doyle, Craig GottschaIIt and Dan Zlock. These four remained in a tight bundle until the last lap wben Gottschalk came off hard between turns four and five, taking a severe bruising and a ride to the bOlpital for observation and treatment. That left Zlock. 860cc Cafe class winner, to lead Marinacci and Doyle acl'Ollll the finish, followed at a respectable diatanee by 860cc Cafe contenden Dave Wilson (Hon) and Rhys Howard. on his Tonka 550 Yamaba. ]n the second running of the combined Open/86Occ Cafe mob, Skiver and Pinkstaff would again repeat, with Marinacci third. while Zlock would make it a double for 860cc honon followed by Howard and Wilson. On a moto-score basis, that would give Howard a second in 860cc Cafe to go alongside class wins in 750cc Production and 600cc Cafe. Busy day. Pinkstaff doubled in Open Production, and Larry Buck outpointed Robbie Adams with a 2-1 score for 4IOcc Production. Adams had won the fint heat on a Iast-lar pass after a racelong drafting due, but got bumped to third in the following heat. One fina1 DOte 011 the Honda invasion. Factory mechanics blew away the wall-sitten when they revealed that these were last year's moton the boys were using to get practice time and try out different setups. The fast ones are yet to come. Moore, Klaudt, McLean take the green at SIR night MX By Suanne Ught KENT, WA, AUG. 21 It was another all out assault in the 125cc Pro class tonight at Seattle International Raceway. Jeff Moore (Bellevue Suz) topped the heavily competitive class winning both motos for the overall while Cory Klaudt (Burien Yam) did the same in 250cc Pro. William McLean (Suz) went for a 2-1 in Open Pro for the overall. Seventeen full classes lined the starting area for another full house at SIR. The largest class as usual was the 125cc C class at 26 riders. Scoring was the most inconsistent that this journalist has ever seen! Believe it or not, Steve McClain (Hon) took the overall with an 8-5 score. Fint moto had Tim Blakeslee (Suz) go on to take the win with Jeff Morrison (Hon). Ricky Kelly (Hon) and Dean Bulpin (Suz) taking ftnt through fourth. Second moto. Bobby Miemann (Yam) took the win after a fmt moto DNF with second going to James Dodge (Yam). who also DNF moto one, and third to McClain. Overall it was McClain (8-!!). second to Scott Gordon (Suz, 6-6) and third to Brian Curtis (5-7). Blakeslee was fourth with his 1-14 score. ]n 125cc Pro moto one, Moore mastered his way to the lead at the drop of the gate and took off like a bat while David Henden (Yam) and Ray Weaver (Suz) gave chase. Henden wasn't letting Moore off the hook easily and put pressure on him all the way. swapping spots. but it was Moore who held tough to take the moto win ~ HendeD. Wea~. David Holloway (Yam) and Dallas Nyblod (Yam). Second time out, Moore again took command of the moto with Weaver. Henden. Nyblod and usual Open rider Steve Miller (Yam) in punuit_ Moore seemed to be enjoying himself out front all alone while Weaver and Henden conducted warfare for the final money spot_ Moore took the checken with Weaver second and Henden third. Overall it was Moore (1-1). Weaver (5-2) and Henden (2-5). ]n Open Pro action, Mike Odden took the holeshot and wasn't headed, but Bill McLean (Suz) held close to finisb second over Craig Steele (Suz). The second moto had McLean put his Suzuki into the lead with Odden trying in vain to steal it, but ran out of luck and time. McLean took the overall with his 2-1 over Odden's 1·2 and Steele's consistent 5-5. 250cc Pro was a small class, but it was loaded with action.
