Spearheaded by riders Jeff Johnson, Dennis Pinhero and Ward McKee, unaffiliated Din Traders M.C. hosted a Semi-pro type shan track with a $500 Pro purse and several thousand doIIan worth of donated parts, services and other goodies. The field was large, but not what had been expected. The absence of NorCal riders probably kept the numbers down to about 75 riders. Nothing too new in the win column as Pete Hames took the checkers fint in the 500cc Money main, l!5Occ Money main and the special Pro-Only Trophy Dash_ Yamaha-mounted Hames had a pretty easy time of it in the 500cc class. while Jim Gentile, Rex Hailey and Jimmy Snow kept things close for runner-up spot. Hailey kept the position for the last five laps of the I5-lapper. holding bad Gentile and Snow at the finish. The l!50cc Money final was another "C·note" in Hames' poc1r.et, but he had his hands full with 18 ridrrs split into two heats. First through third went directly to the fmal, with evnybody else riding one of two semi-finals to determine the starting lineup for the 15-lap final. Hames, this tIme Kawuakimounted, handily won the first heat over R~r Thompson and Rich Volk. The second five-Iapper went wire to wire for Bobby Sanders in a rare twostroke appearance. Tony Denius-tuned Mike Kirby held second spot until the final few feet when Jimmy Rosa found a way around. Rosa is just coming off a bad spill at the last Ascot Pro race and looked in fine form. A bit of an error by a starter who shall remain anonymous put three riders into the main by vinue of an extra lap with a different leader. Randy Bird and Curtis Cannon each won the race but on different laps. Bud Carroll took the second semi over fellow Pro Novice James Morris to set the field for the final. The main was a romp for Hames as he won by some distance over KRWsponsored R~r Thompson and Bobby Sanders. Richie Volk worked his way up to founh place in the final standings, while the battle for fifth was decided via protest in favor of Mike Kirby over an alledged coune-cutting by Bud Carroll in the final corner. Allen Swett has finally gotten his 500 Honda to hook up and won both the heat race and main event for 500cc Experts. Jim Gentile slid into second place early in the main to run second until the final lap when Rex "Big Spender" Haily took over the runnerup spot. Gentile finished third over Vince Landry and Joel Windham in a great race within a race with lots of bar-banging and tire-treading. After suffering defeat at the hands of lC. Milburn in the heat race, Ron BaneIs took command of the final in a hurry and took the trophy over John Perez and Milburn. Mercury Mane led every lap he rode in 500cc Novice competition, both heat and main, while co-promoter Dennis Pinhero and Ken Barrow wound up in the place and show spots in the final. The 500cc Senior race fell to the International Yamaha TT500 of Mane again, this time besting Bill BaneIs and Barrow. Bob Schneider out·raced Guy Duckett to founh spot. Bud Carroll rode his Champion Frames Yamaha to the win in the l!50cc Expen final, as heat race winner Roger Thompson tipped over while in second spot on lap three giving that position to District 57 l!5Occ Number
