FIwlk Maur (12) but PhIl Beck (2401 twice 8t s..a PoInt. Hansen, Gray pace Experts at ChlcoST By Marty Scott wasted no time getting out in the lead. Gray was coming fast from the 50 and worked his way up to Scott. He was unable to make the pass and fell a few feet short of the win. JamsatLodl CHICO, CA,JULY 18 Dale Hansen led every lap of the ,250cc Expert main event, and Ken Gray continued his dominance in the 500cc Expert class with another win at Cycleland Speed· way's short track near Chico. Lowell Moural and Associates had the cushion surface in fme shape, and with no dust, it would make it a good night for racing. The 250cc Novice class was up fint, and the win went to Mark Schmeck. Larry Barkhouse took the win in a hard fought 250ccJunior event. Hansen was of and gone on the start of the 250cc Expert main. Pat Seigle and Doug Reiswig followed. With 20 laps, there was plenty of time to make things happen. By the halfway point, Hansen had opened up a solid lead. Reiswig was able to pass Seigle for second, and Gray had worked his way through the pack into a solid fourth. Seigle finally was able to slip past Reiswig again on lap 16; he would hold it to the finish. Gray was really pressuring Reiswig for the final payoff spot, fmally getting by on lap 18. The final payoff was Hansen, Seigle and Gray. The 500cc Experts went to the line with Billy Scott getting a little anxious; he was sent to the back row. On the start, it was Gray all the way never looking back. Seigle was second. Scott quicltly worked his way through the pack and into third. The battle was now for second. Scott was able to get by Seigle for second on lap five but lost it right back the next lap when he bobbled exiting two. The two payoffs went to Gray and Seigle with Scott a close third. The final events - the Handicaps - were next. Reiswig worked his way from the 45-yard stripe and took an easy win over Novice Rich Gresham and Dirck Sauer. Next week, Reiswig will move to the 50 and shoot for the big win that could make him a scratch man. In the 500cc Handicap, it was Scott and his Yamaha all the way as he By Ann Carr Lom, CA,JULY 10-11 Good spectator turnouts and a few more racers enhanced Lodi's fourth round of double-header short trackin' this weekend. Sev. eral riden had been promised a move up in class if they placed Friday night, and this incentive made for some good racing both nights. Alex "Jorgy" Jorgensen, currently ranked eighth in the Winston Pro Series standings, returned to his home track and showed the troops the way around in the 250cc Expert events both nights. Alex's Boss Can·Am is really a good one, and he easily outdistanced Aaron Hill and Hal Hook (who has really improved over the past few weeks) on Friday nigh.t. The margin was a bit smaller Saturday night as he had to get around new Expert Chris Carr (Chris won the 25OccJunior Friday to advance a class) who led the fint three laps. Mter Alex's tum three pass into fint, the battle for second between Chris, David Boyles and Aaron Hill was reminiscent of the old Chandler, Hill, Carr Mini Expert battles, but Chris was able to hold off both for second. David's third cou~led with the 500cc Expert win gave him the lion's share of the money and some valuable number one points. Winltie Freitas and Mike Macedo shared the 85cc Expert wins as Winltie held off a pressing Macedo Friday and added the lOOcc Expert win also while Mike nailed the 85s Saturday over Tommy Knight. In other Mini action, 'Shad Johnson overtook a combined 85c::c main Friday, but fell hard Satur· day and left fint to Mike McDonnell who battled Jeff Bingham throughout the 10 laps. Mini action this season is short in numben sometimes, but the action is getting closer every week as these riden begin to develop their talents. In Sportsman Novice competition, Stoclttc;lD's Richard Frisk, another high· Iy improved rider over the past two weeks, came from behind Friday to ace the 2SO·5OOcc combined Novice race over Jack Winans' 500, and easily outdistanced Billy Taylor Saturday in a regular 250cc event. Don Clasby grabbed the· SOOcc Novice spotlight Saturday. "Wild" Woody Ragen also continued to slip by the lightweight class whether Junion show or not as he dominated both nights. Debby Rocha showed the 500cc Junior men the way around for the last time Friday as she became the fint woman in District !l6 flat track to move all the way to Expert on a heavyweight bike against male competiton. Debbie Jacltline in the early '70s made Expert but against women only and on a 125. Debby couldn't break into the money ranks Saturday but with prac· tice should challenge soon. Don Stommel celebrated Debby's departure by acing Kelly Bennett for the 500ccJunior win Saturday. Don is also beginning to show flashes of his Expert status from several yean back. Mt. View's Frank Sanchez aced Mike Cronk for a good 250cc Junior go minus Carr. It was especially good to see the !l60cc Experts back Saturday for some excellent Honda racing. Errol Longboya topped the field with Danny Malfatb second. Friday night racing will continue at Lodi through July !II with Saturday night action gomg through August 22. Short track National Qualifier night is July 25. For those of you who missed Saturday's party after the race ... too bad! It was a good onel Rasults FIlIDAY PEEWEE: . . EX: 1. 1. AW_IHonl. Jeremy Gonzales started things off with the Pee Wee class win. Ricky Smith followed with the 85cc Novice win. Jeff Pestana took the 85cc Junior win over Tony Mitchell. Mazur doubles at AFM Sears Point RR By Karl Okamoto SONOMA, CA,JULY 12 Frank Mazur found a way to get around rival Phil Beck to take both the 600cc Production and Box Stock wins at Sears Point (formerly Golden State) Raceway. Mazur, better known for his Elton John sunglasses and fluorescent rolkrskates, was barely able to beat c1aas points leader Beclt, but somehow managed to get out front at the checltered. Both rode Kawasaki GPz550s. "I had my doubts about myself last year, but I ~~ that t~ bike wasn't ~uite with It. Of Beclt; It seems li1le he s !earIes. I have to plan a little more for the turns," Beck (Devil Mountain Mftg.) wasn't conceding anything, either. "Francis has too much motor," he said. "I get him in the cornen, and he gets me in the straightaways. You gotta be aggres. sive. You gotta just pass 'em." Joe Montoya, on the Team Bozo Yam Seca 550, was third in both races. Mazur and Beck's see-saw dice wasn't the only one of the day, either. With the overall points standings at stake, both Louis Vallerga (Palo Alto Yam RD4OO) and Kirk Graves (Radisich
