orthern Californill·Northem Nevada-Oregon-Wuhlngton-ldaho-Utllh-Alaska-' evening and took biI Spinetti's of Jackson Hondu to viaory in both the 250 and 500cc Expert divisions. David's win, coupled with Mark Key's DOD-place, moved the two into a tie for season payoff money in the 250cc ranb while both moved away a notch in the 500a. Stockton'. Joe Knight, aboard the former Jim Filice Yamaha, edged c10Ier with biI third in the 250. Greg Gray and Danny McDonnell are in a knockdown, dragout battle for the 250cc Sportsman season trophy. McDonnell outdistanced former Expert Gary Caves to win the 250cc Novice go and force Gray to really go for it in the Junior fray. Greg and Chris Carr both staned on the penalty line - Gray on row three and Carr on row four - but each worked biI way through the pack beautifully and when AI Rudy fell mid-race, they diced the rest of the way to finish onetwo with Greg getting his needed fint place points. Ceres Novice Jeff Manins took 'bi1 560 Montesa to within one point of John Caner in the 560cc Sponsman struggle as Jeff bested Tom Flaheny for the NOVIce win while John chased Kelly Bennett in the Junior main and could score no points. These two should have a se.ason-Iong battle as the 560cc class has been a steady one so far. Clements Mini Expen Mike Macedo moved to within one point of an absent class Winkie Freitas in BOcc competition as he battled Scott Casey in heat and main for the win. Other Mini winners Mike McDonnell Ounior) and Jon Noyer (Novice) - do not yet figure in high point consideration. Junior 125cc winner Rob Dunham moved into a tie for season honors by besting the combined class while Old Timer John McGill bested the 200cc combatants. Debby Rocha picked off her first Lodi win tbil season in the 500cc Junior run over Roy Fisher, .and San Mateo's Rolland Hollis nabbed the 500cc Novice main. All classes are still up for high points grabs as the points season does not close until August 15. For those who got staned late on Saturday night high point action, M & D Promotions (Mike Macedo and Dennis Hill) will host a Friday night high point series at Lodi starting on June 19. Doug doubles at MontereyST By Bill Spencer MONTEREY, CA,JUNE 15 Six-time National Amateur champ Doug Chandler appears to be back in pretty fair shape after two broken bones in less than a year as he won both the 250 and 500cc Expert mains tonight on the very tiny Monterey County Fairgrounds short track on biI Salinas Kawasaki mounts with the usual amount of "-Daniel in the lion'. den" happenings. The one-twelfth·mile dirt cushion is interesting to watch, much like the Romans must have done in thrilling days of yesteryear, and District 56 guys just love it. Josh Chisum is interested in having more riders tum out for the Pee Wee class that he figures he just about owns on biljR50. Dave Woodward was tops in 80cc Novice with Dave Cahoon win· ner overJon Nunez in 80ccJunior. Kurt Chandler scratched the KX80 from the 80cc Expert main when it started making bad crank noises, so Winkie Freitas had one less to worry about, winning very big on the CR80 Honda over Steve Mayfield and Craig Johnson. Johnson and Dean Vincelet had the best of the bunch back· andforth shot. Dean and the Salinas Kawasaki see-sawed the point for a while with Craig riding the Seaside Sports Center Yamaha around to the third trophy spot. Jon Nunez came around the winner in l00ccJunior over Anthony Mitchell who runs around with leathers that just say Ant. Kurt Chandler came back for the big l00cc Expert win over Steve Mayfield riding a monoshock conversion that works well. Gordon Neavrin was the new kid on the 250cc Novice winning block taking first over Eric Green. Mike Arthur rode the way outside line in 250cc Junior aboanl one of those trick Astroa with the Jack Lancaster frame that is the only way to ride a cushion WFO. P.J. Sanchez hooked up the Bob's Garage KX for second with some fancy sliding that might have worked better with a little less throttle action. Vance Felicia appeared to have the right throttle action in the 250cc Expert main getting the jump off the line over Jerry Warren, Frank Garcia and Keith Day with Chandler backing away from the first tum melee. After the usual first two tum get-offs, the race seemed to settle down with Vance at the point and Doug moving into sec· and. Vance then got off a berm too much with the gas and got it really sidewise, floating biI KX toward the outside fence. He saved it from a crash, bu t Chandler's quick reaction took over the lead and the big win with Geoff Lowe catching up for third. Dave Franklin rode a TT500 to the 500cc Novice win over Kurt Schiffler, Imd it makes one wonder where the District rule on noise abatement went. Mike Arthur made it an easy double for the night riding a 560 Astro to the 500cc Junior win. He is really a great sight to watch. Keith Day took over the point in the first tum of 500cc Expert, and with Doug Chandler set in second, it appeared to be over with those two moving away from the crowd. Just past the halfway point, however, Keith rolled up over a little berm and had his foot caught under the frame when it settled, stalling the motor. Doug said thanlts as he went by, and that was the name of that tune with Danny Moore in for second over Roger Burditt. - Results P£E WEE: 1. JoaIl Chisum ISozl. 80 NOV: 1.
