LACONIA, N.H. June 20Four out of the five BMWs
-starting the "Battle of the
Twins" swept to First Place
wins in America's oldest
motorcyde race -the 58th
Annual Laconia Classictoday.
Decisively winning the
Grand Prix by a good half
lap at the finish in a torrential downpour, David
Emde of California rode a
bike sponsored by San Jose
BMW,
Emde-who took the
R65
64
lead from the start, widened it throughout and
dearly provided '''the dass
of the race"-was obviously up for th~ event,
afterwards commenting to
the press that he felt the
bike he was riding was a
perfect combination for the
weather and the track.
The other Firsts registered by BMWs went to
John Long for Modified
Production Expert, Bill
Atkinson for Modified Production Amateur-both
R80G/S
RlOO
RIOOCS
RlOORS
sponsored by Bavarian
Cyde Center of Skowhegan, Maine. And to
Devin Battley from Annandale, Virginia, for Stock
Production Class.
The downpour dampened everything except the
shouts of BMW fans in the
stands here at this National
Championship Series event
in Loudon, New Hampshire when Emde, the dear
victor, pulled a wheelie for
the full length of the final
straightaway.
