SRA LAUDS BLM DIRECTOR
Sportsman Racing Association officials John Taylor (I.) and Ron
Vincellette (r.1 present outgoing BlM Riverside District Director Jack Wilson
with a plaque in recognition of his role as a racing supporter. An SRA
spokesman said, "The Bureau of Land Management should know how much
their help is appreciated by the organized racing crowd. For years the BlM has
been viewed by many as the number one enemy of off-road vehicles. In reality,
they have served admirably, holding off the strong pressure groups who
attempted to coerce them into closing lands."
Desert racing is a family effort.
Hodaka, first Amateur in was John
Erson.
The 125 Am/Ex. were the last to go
on the Chargers' course. It was hot and
everyone was tired.
Pfutzenreuter-again took the lead on
his Bultaco, and again Darryl Ellis was
righ t up there. Allen Lund was holding,
down the first 125cc spot on his DKW,
but had a case of heat prostration and
had to q uiL (He also had a rough race
early having gone over the cliff on the
So. Cal. hill and rode the rocky hill all
out going straight down, that's what
you call being loose). Pfutzenreuter
took the win; Ellis was second both on
Bultacos. Jim Brown was third and
Brian Kock was the first Amateur in.
Mike McCoy of the Victors M.C.
summed it all up: uThe courses were
bitchin: the racing was close; it's hot;
let's get out of here."

ArroyoWra ps Up Series
By David Oberhelman
STODDARD WELLS, CAL., June 19,
1971 - Arroyo Racing Association
wrapped its Saturday Series up on a
course which many riders comment~d
was the best marked and most
challenging they had seen in a long time.
The weather was clear, and the races
were hotly contested.
The first event was the class for riders
16-years-old and under. Troy Breker,
son and student of desert pro Dick
Breker, was the unchallenged winner of
this event, with Brad Morrow gaining
the runner up slot. However, Morrow
earned the Series high point trophy in
that class with three second place
fmishes.
The 100-125 class event was again
dominated by Scott Haislip, who took
fITst overall and the Series high point
trophy in this class on his Yamaha.
Monte Lee was the Series trophy winner
in the 125 class, and again won the 125
first place. Runner up in the 100
division was Walker Yetto, with James
Jacks taking second 125.
Again the 250 and Open classes were
combined and had many new faces out
front. At the wire it was Dean
Hammonds in for first place Open on a
Husky and Ron Fore in for First 250 on
a Yamaha with Ron Music coming in
secona.
Hammonds was seriously
challgned throughout the race by fellow
Husky rider Gus Paull who again earned
second place honors.
The 250 high point Series trophy
went to young Troy Hollis who finished
third in this event after running out of
gas.
The Open class Series trophy went to
Dick Breker, who had won on two
previous occasions. Dick was sidelined
for this event due to bike problems.
