VOLUME VIII NUMBER 26 July 13, 1971 The AMA National Circuit finally reached the West Coast Monday with the annual running of the 20-Lap Half-Mile Championship at San Jose, Calif. The positions of the National Points race were assured of rewrite as such notables as Dick Mann, Gene Romero, Jim Rice, Dave Sehl, Jim Odom, Mark Brelsford reached the Main Event. A lot of surprises occurred including a near upset win by a relatively unknown to whole of America. That report -is on page 18-19; above photo by Steve LeHuray. After last week's stunning perfonnance at Indian Dunes, another strong effort· by the Americans hosting the 250cc European corps attending the summer Inter-AMA motocross series was half-way expected and it occurred again as the Yanks invaded the top five overall finishers while many of the Europeans had to settle for spots far down on the finishing list.
