M aness SOuthern California has , for more yea rs than most of us can remember, been America's M otorcycle Mecca. The racing fan here has been privile ged to witness more and finer racin g than can be found in any other part of t he country. Carrell Speedway, Gardena Stadium, Asc ot Park- all have been s howcase s for the biggest names in motorcycling. It seems , at times , almost too good. At Ascot Par k it is not unusual to have 200 riders show up for the weekly half-mile events. That is just a bit 100 much. The boys need someplace else to s how their stuff. DONIT BE FOOLED BY WILD CLAIMS OF JUST AS GOOD. THERE ARE NONE! The very thin g we need will soon be here. This is not a paper dream. Constru ction has been s tarted and t he first race sho uld be held toward the end of Ju ly. W Tice , pres ident of the Soland ill Corporati on that will operate this new racing plant, is a man who had made a business of racin g. Many remember the San Gabriel Valley Dragstrip that he ran from 1960 to 1963. Tha t s trip was one of the best run and best paying dragst rips in the count ry at that time . The San Gabriel Vall ey Rac eway, as the new track will be called, i s going to be run in the s ame way. This means there is going to be a bi g promoti on budget to draw big crowds and make for really big pay-offs • .The hard-s ell type of adverti sing di d the job for Mr. 'lice before and he figures that's the proper way to do thin gs for this operation. As seen in the plot plan of the new faci lity. San Gabriel Valley Raceway appears a well thought out racing plant. There is plenty of parking for both spectato rs and competitors and a lar ge grand stand . The sna ck bars and res trooms will be lar ge and designed to let fans return to the acti on in as s hort a time as possible .
