VOL. 55 ISSUE 25 JUNE 26, 2018 P69 to ride alongside Musquin in 2019. Also, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Josh Grant is back on the bike after his leg has fully healed and he will be back at the track as soon as he feels like he's back up to speed. BACK IN ACTION Jimmy Decotis (Autotrader/Yoshimura Suzuki), who suffered a back injury in supercross, returned to racing at Muddy Creek. "It was great to be at the races," he said. "Honestly, after breaking my back I wasn't sure whether I'd even be able to race this summer. It was a long road to get here. I'm so thankful to…have access to the therapy at JGRMX. To come away with points in both motos is a good start, but the finishes aren't where I want to be. Taking the posi- tives away, I was really fit and strong in both motos. Now I just need to get the speed. I figured that would happen, because I was off the bike for three and a half months, and I was in a lot of pain during those first few weeks on the bike. Only lately have I started to get that aggression back. It will take time, but Southwick should boost my confidence." AX MAN The second-best Kawasaki KX450F in the field at Muddy Creek was ridden by AX champ Jacob Hayes, who went 16-12 for 11th overall. The 2018 Amsoil Arenacross Champion is looking for a steady ride next year, and judging by his performance at Muddy Creek, he should be able to find one. STILL FEELING IT Weston Peick (Autotrader/Yoshimura Suzuki) says he's still feeling the ef- fects from a hand injury suffered a few Briefly... the top 20, and by the time Musquin got by Barcia for the lead, four laps into the race, Tomac was still ninth. Musquin put in some hot laps once he got out front, and Tomac caught fire about halfway through the race and started working his way up through the top five. Once Tomac got past Roczen and into third, he started trying to cut into Barcia's lead in second, but ended up settling for third once he saw he wasn't catching Barcia quickly enough. "I was pushing for a couple of laps once I got to third, to see if I could catch Justin [Barcia], but he was going fast enough that it wasn't worth the risk at that point," Tomac said. "I knew we had the overall; we made points on the day. So yes, I did settle, but it was good enough for the win and taking a few points home with us, so successful day. Even though we didn't go 1-1, this is good." Musquin took the moto win—his second of the year so far— over Barcia and Tomac. Barcia was second overall with a 2-2 Marvin Musquin won the second 450MX moto, but a crash early in the first moto likely cost him the overall win.
