MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 5 / JUNE 23, 2018 MUDDY CREEK RACEWAY / BLOUNTVILLE, TENNESSEE P68 THE CRASH The 2018 AMA 250MX National Motocross Championship got blown up early on the first lap of the second moto at Muddy Creek Raceway. Jeremy Martin had just won the first moto and pulled back 13 points on Aaron Plessinger, and just as the pack hit the fastest straightaway on the track, Martin was running around the tail end of the top five. As he pulled alongside Justin Cooper, Coo- per appeared to drift left in the air, right into Martin's line. Martin went down hard and was reaching around to his back as he laid trackside. Martin suffered a fracture to his L1 vertebra, and will be undergoing sur- gery. Fortunately he has no paralysis, though the injury will require about an eight-week recovery period. This is good news considering the severity of the crash, but it still puts Martin out of the championship right when he was really catching fire. MARCHBANKS BACK SOON Garrett Marchbanks (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki) went down hard at High Point a week ago and revealed that he suffered a strained MCL in his left knee, but the good news for the rookie is that he hopes to be back in the saddle for Southwick next weekend. 125CC ACTION Wil Hahn, the Monster Energy/Ya- malube/Star Racing Yamaha team manager, came up just short of the win in the 125 All-Star race at Muddy Creek, losing out in the last turn to Darryn Durham, who also won last week's race at High Point. COMING SOON The Muddy Creek National marked the last race of Alex Ray's stint on the Monster Energy Yamaha team. He went 18-13 for 16th overall. But this means that Cooper Webb should be back soon to finish out his Yamaha contract before he likely moves over to Red Bull KTM Briefly... Justin Barcia's 2-2 wasn't enough to get him the overall win but he was satisfied with his consistent results.
