The Twins class gets started
in the OKC Mile final.
Mees could race and pass and dice it up, but he
didn't need to. When the 25-lap AFT Twins main
blasted off, he nailed another perfect start, and
the race for first was virtually over. At the end of
the first lap Mees' lead was 0.7 of a second and
growing over Henry Wiles (Bandit Industries/Wilco
Racing Indian Scout FTR750).
All day long the only rider to challenge Mees
was Springfield Mile winner, Jeffrey Carver. Carver
came off the line in second, but his Indian Scout
FTR750 blew up on the first lap.
"Another one let loose, it's unfortunate," said
Carver. "At least I didn't go down and nobody ran
into me. We have no idea what happened. It is
something internal. We kind of knew what hap-
pened with the other one at Sacramento. We'll just
have to check into it and see what's up."
Wiles took full advantage of his inherited position
and even though he was losing ground to Mees he
was never really challenged the rest of the race.
The race for third was another matter entirely.
