JOSH WATERS WINS AUSTRALIAN
SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP
T
eam Ecstar Suzuki rider Josh
Waters wrapped up his third
career Australian Superbike
Championship title in a tense
final round at Phillip Island,
October 7-8, sealing the cham-
pionship with a race-one win
followed by a fifth in race two.
Waters' opening race
win came after he pulled a
3.759-second gap to the flag
ahead of Yamaha Factory Rac-
ing's Wayne Maxwell and his
teammate, Glenn Allerton. How-
ever, Maxwell bounced back
to take a close 0.126-second
victory over defending series
champion Troy Herfoss (Crankt
Protein Honda Racing), with
Herfoss' teammate Bryan Star-
ing in third. Waters came home
in a safe fifth to take an emotion
title win.
"I've said it a million times,
I never thought I would be in
contention for the championship
halfway through the season,"
said Waters who was at one
point languishing in sixth place
in the series. "To win the cham-
pionship for Team Ecstar Suzuki
is awesome. Big thanks to the
team, sponsors and every-
one that's stood by me, I can't
believe it! The turnaround from
the start of the season has been
huge."
Series runner-up Maxwell
rued another lost title after too
many DNFs stopped the 2013
champion adding to his personal
tally. CN
Josh Waters
pulled a rabbit
out of his hat
to take his third
ASBK title.
