HINES VOL. 53 ISSUE 20 MAY 24, 2016 P99 Baker made 12 laps and Jared Mees' race came to an end once again on lap 17. Briar Bauman (Weirbach Racing/Racing Unlimited), Henry Wiles, Sammy Halbert (BriggsAuto.com/Martin Truck- ing), Cory Texter (Texter Racing/ Cycle World) and Shawn Baer (Schaeffer's Motorsports SBR) rounded out the top 10. Smith moved all the way from fourth in the GNC 1 point stand- ings to a two-point lead over Hal- bert. Jake Johnson is nine back and although Mees was able to minimize the damage by making the restart, he is 13 points back of Smith heading into Memorial Day Weekend and the Spring- field Mile. hoping to come out of here with at least a podium. I finished fifth and beat the two guys in front of me in points. Jared [Mees] had a horrible night. Looking at that it could have been worse. I'm not sure where Sammy [Halbert] finished, but I finished in front of him. All in all it was a good day of damage control." The race certainly had it's fair share of attrition, after the restart for Kolkman's problem. Davis Fisher (Harley-Davidson Motor Company), who was making his first start in a GNC 1 Twins main event had his "Street 750" quit on lap 11, the same lap Kennedy Racing's Brandon Robinson went out. Harley-Davidson Motor Company/Vance & Hines' Brad save my tire. At the end I started going to the front. It was cool." Title contender Jake Johnson was able to guide his Zanotti Racing/Classic Harley-Davidson mount into a fifth-place finish. "The race was eventful and not in the ways that I would like. I just struggled all day," said Johnson. "I couldn't really get going. I just didn't have the pace to run with the front pack. I was in a pack with [Briar] Bauman, Wiles and Vanderkooi. We had some moments. [Brandon] Robinson was in there and he blew up right in front of me. There was a bit of chaos going on all around me. Fifth is not what I wanted. This is typically a pretty strong track for me. I was Jake Johnson (5) and Briar Bauman had a good battle going for a while.
