Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey
used to be considered one of the
most risk-averse racers in moto-
cross. There were a lot of ways
people would describe this trait;
they say he's smart, he's conser-
vative, he's consistent, he stays
healthy... These are all essentially
euphemisms for Ryan Dungey be-
ing risk-averse.
All year in 2016, Dungey
has been pushing hard to win
every race he's been in. He
hasn't been risk-averse at all in
2016. But ever since the Detroit
Supercross, where Dungey had
his main event win taken away
because he supposedly jumped
on a red-cross flag, Dungey has
been racing angry. In both races
since Detroit, Dungey's former
teammate Ken Roczen (RCH
Suzuki) has put a lot of pressure
on him, but Dungey has refused to
fold even though it would prob-
ably have been the "smart move"
to make, considering his massive
points lead.
In Santa Clara, Roczen caught
Dungey early and was riding faster
than Dungey, but Dungey put his
head down and charged, eventu-
ally putting a small gap between
himself and Roczen that he held
to the finish. In Indianapolis, Roc-
zen didn't just catch Dungey, but
he passed Dungey multiple times,
and Dungey still ended up taking
