the win yet again.
This race stands out not just
because Dungey had a fight
for literally the entire 20 laps in
Indianapolis, but because the
track was so incredibly treacher-
ous—with ruts on the face of the
triple deep enough to hide part
of his KTM's rear sprocket—that
it wasn't just a race against
Roczen, but it was a race where
pushing yourself was even riskier
than normal. In the last three
laps, when Dungey and Roczen
both actually looked downright
tired, they both got their lap
times into the 46-second range
while no other racer on the track
could even get below 48 sec-
onds. Only three racers on the
track even managed to get into
the 48s in the final three laps,
and those were Yoshimura Suzu-
ki's Blake Baggett (who scored
his best finish of the season in
fifth place), Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna's Jason Anderson,
and Yamaha's Chad Reed.
In the end, Dungey held off
Roczen by a mere 1.7 seconds,
but third-placed Anderson
crossed the line about 28 sec-
onds after Roczen, and then
Honda's Trey Canard crossed the
line another 11 seconds back, just
in front of Baggett, with Reed in
sixth, 55 seconds behind Dungey.
Everyone else on the track ended
the race at least one lap down.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 53 ISSUE 12 APRIL 12, 2016 P79
Dungey (1) leads Ken Roczen (94), Justin Brayton
(10) and Blake Baggett (4). Dungey and Roczen
went at it again and pulled away from the field,
and, once again, Dungey prevailed.
