FLAT TRACK AMA PRO FLAT TRACK SERIES ROUND 11 / SEPTEMBER 6, 2015 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUND / SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P54 TWO WOMEN: A FIRST IN PRO FLAT TRACK HISTORY When Nichole Mees and Shayna Texter both qualified for a national at Springfield it made the history books. It marked the first time in AMA Pro Flat Track history that two women qualified for a main in the same national. It was something that a lot of pundits thought would happen last year in Texter's rookie season, but for whatever reason in 2014, whenever Texter made the main Nichole missed it and vice versa. This year Mees is having one of her best seasons, making the main at four rounds coming into Springfield. Texter was having a tougher time of it and hadn't made the start of a Grand National all year long. But on this weekend it all came together for both. Mees, riding Willie McCoy's Harley- Davidson, made it into the Springfield II main in a big way winning her heat race. It marked the first time in her career she scored a heat-race victory. Texter made it directly into the main as well, finishing fourth in heat-race three on her Richie Morris Racing Kawasaki. In the main, Mees ran as high as fifth in the early going before settling into eighth. Unfortunately with about five laps to go Mees hit the rail. "I would have kept going, I wasn't hurt or anything, but the shifter got jammed under the frame and it put it into neutral," Mees explained. "I couldn't get it shifted back into gear. But I'm very happy with our perfor- mance today. I can't thank my dad and Smith edged out Jared Mees at the finish for his second Springfield Mile win of the season.
