VOL. 52 ISSUE 36 SEPTEMBER 9, 2015 P55 Briefly... wanted to race the Springfield Short Track," Kocinski said. "It's nice to get out and watch these guys. This brings me back to my roots. I grew up racing dirt track." Bryan Smith's victory at Springfield was a series leading fifth of the sea- son and his 22nd-career Grand Na- tional win. He's ranked 14th on the all-time wins list. Springfield featured a special Dave Coats Memorial GNC2 Dash for Cash. The race was won by Tristan Avery on his Rod Ayers Motorsports Kawasaki. Avery nipped Davis Fish- er and J.R. Addison in the four-lap Dash. Sammy Halbert took home the Dash for Cash victory in the GNC1 class in a photo finish over Jake Johnson. The win not only netted the Briggs Auto Kawasaki rider the $1000 prize, but it also earned him the pole position for the 25-lap na- tional. son to win his sixth Springfield Mile. The victory moved Smith within a single point of Mees in the series title chase (177-176) with three rounds remaining. Sammy Halbert finished fourth and dropped off a little more from the leading duo in the standings. Halbert is third now with 156 points. Smith believes the next two rounds, half-miles in Del- mar, Delaware and Calistoga, California, will be critical for his championship hopes, especially considering the 2015 series ends on an indoor short track in Las Vegas. "I'm really going to have to push it in these next two races," Smith said. "I need to get as many points as I can, with the season ending on an indoor short track you never know what might happen." For points leader Jared Mees, it was mission accomplished, everybody else enough for all their hard work." After a slow start running 16th on the first lap, Texter got rolling and smoothly worked traffic on her way up through the field to an eventual 10th. "I had to battle with my brother the entire 25 lap main event, which definite- ly created a new memory for the both of us," Texter said. "I'm happy with the progress that the entire team is making together. I can't thank my sponsors and fans enough for sticking behind me." continued on next page
