the pits once they have already
been staged. Luckily for the
team, they were pitted right next
to the staging area and managed
to replace the bike's fuel tank,
suspecting a faulting fuel pump,
which is located in the tank.
They also disconnected any non-
critical electrical connection—
which we can only guess means
the kill switch—and hoped for the
best. As the gate dropped, the
team managed to push-start the
bike and join the race well after
the pack had rounded the first
turn.
Martin managed to pass 35
riders en route to a remarkable
fifth-place finish.
Martin's troubles continued
in the second moto. He actu-
ally got off to a great start but
got inadvertently taken out by
Jessy Nelson in the second turn,
collecting GEICO Honda team
riders Matt Bisceglia and Jordon
Smith.
Once again, Martin found him-
self in the back of the pack and
having to work his way up. This
time he could only catch up to
sixth, salvaging what easily could
have been a complete disaster
of a day.
Martin was not bummed at the
end of the day but was instead
happy with how he rode and how
his brother, Alex, rode, as well.
The Other Martin
Had it not been for one small
mistake in the first moto, Alex
Martin, on the CycleTrader.com/
Rock River Yamaha, might've
ended the day on the podium.
Martin had the Glen Helen track
(Above) Adam Cianciarulo had a hard
get-off right off the start of the first
moto. (Right) Justin Hill finally had
things go his way, finishing second
overall in the 250 class.
