by lap two, where he laid down the fastest lap
time of the day to gain within 15 seconds of
Russell. As quickly as Bach reeled Russell
in for the lead, RideMPS.com/AMSOIL Hon-
da's Thad DuVall appeared from way behind
and interjected himself into the mix. DuVall,
who crashed on the opening lap and had to
stop in the pits to bend his shifter, wasted no
time coming back from outside the top 10 and
his momentum was undeniable as he moved
past Bach for the second place position.
"I got together with Strang on the first lap,
it was nobody's fault," DuVall said. "My shifter
was bent and I was stuck in third gear so I
came into the pits and got it bent out. From
there I just wanted to have fun and see how
far I could get up, it was kind of like a chal-
lenge."

Yamaha's Josh Strang worked his way into
the second-place battle, which turned into a
four-way contest with DuVall, Bach and Fac-
tory Husqvarna's Andrew Delong. Delong
eventually dropped back but the other three
continued their charge to the front. Lapped
traffic became more prevalent as the race
wore on and passing strategy was key in
staying ahead of the field. Bach got caught
up in lappers and went down, which allowed
Strang to eventually catch and pass him for
third.
"I was trying my best to follow Thad around
because he had awesome lines all day,"
Bach said. "We got into some lappers and
Thad made it through but I ended up crash-
ing and that's when Strang caught up to me."
DuVall was able to maintain a steady pace
all the way to the checkers, finishing less
than 30 seconds behind Russell for second
overall. Strang finished another 27 seconds
back for third overall but it wasn't without a
fight from KTM Support Rider and XC2 Pro
