OFF ROAD AMSOIL GRAND NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SERIES ROUND 10/SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 UNADILLA VALLEY SPORTS CENTER/NEW BERLIN, NEW YORK P72 Lites points leader Grant Baylor, who came only three seconds away from stealing third place overall on time adjustment. "We've been riding this track for a long time now and that thing is beat," Strang said. "It was so rough and so worn out, and with all the people out there it makes for a tough day but I'm happy to finish on the podium." Strang's third-place finish al- lowed him to surpass an injured Factory FMF/KTM's Charlie Mullins for second place in the championship standings. With only three rounds remain- ing in the 2014 season, Russell holds a commanding 50-point lead over Strang in the champi- onship standings. In his bid for a second-straight title, Russell is well on his way to breaking into the top five on the All-Time Over- all Bike Wins list, which is a big feat for the 24-year-old who once looked up to GNCC's greatest during his Youth days. "It means a lot to me to be on the verge of breaking into the top five on the all-time wins list," Rus- sell said. "It's a list full of great champions that I really looked up to when I was younger and they are what made the series into what it is today." SPOTLIGHT After a good start and a top- three running for most of the day, Delong finished fifth in the XC1 class and sixth overall. N-Fab AmPro Yamaha's Paul Whibley has struggled to maintain the fast pace that he's used to as a two- time GNCC Champion. Whibley rode a solid pace all afternoon but wasn't able to break into the top five overall at round 10, fin- ishing sixth in the class and sev- enth overall for the day. The New (Above) Josh Strang finished out the day on the XC1 Pro-class podium. (Right) Women's winner Kacy Martinez finished sixth overall in the morning race.
