Dungey has an excellent
chance to build on his momen-
tum with the next round heading
to his home state of Minnesota,
and if he can win again and, bet-
ter yet, gain some points on Roc-
zen, then he's definitely back in
contention.
The win at Budds Creek was
his third straight at the track and
his second win of the season, the
first one coming at Glen Helen.
Looking back, last week at Red-
Bud might have been Dungey's
worst race of the season, but
Budds Creek may have been his
best.
With the win, Dungey is now
third all-time in combined wins
in the 250 and 450 classes with
38 combined wins, moving one
ahead of Bob Hannah.
"That's great, but I can't think
about that, I have to keep rack-
ing them up," said Dungey. "It's
cool and it's a good accomplish-
ment, but you can't settle, you
have to keep going."
The victory was Dungey's 30
th
in the 450 class, as well.
It looked as though it was
again going to be Roczen's day
at Budds. He passed Dungey
on the opening lap of the first
moto before moving around ear-
ly leader Trey Canard to take the
lead. Dungey ran in second for
the last half of the race but then
closed rapidly on Roczen as the
laps wound down, indicating
that he might have been able to
pass Roczen had he had a few
more laps.
"It would have been nice to
have gotten that first-moto win,
I was closing in and I know ev-
ery moto win is important," said
Dungey.
Using the momentum he
gained at the end of moto one,
Dungey jumped into the lead at
the start of moto two and pulled
away to his third moto win of the

during the outdoors."
Jason Anderson, who is signed to
race a Rockstar Husqvarna in 2015,
said that the week before Budds
Creek he was able to do some mo-
tos on a Husqvarna 450. "I think it's
neat that KTM and Husqvarna have
that relationship where I can go
ahead and start testing for the out-
doors next year," said Anderson. "I'm
stoked to be riding a 450 next year
because I'm a bigger guy compared
to the guys I'm racing right now, so
I think being on a 450 will help me
out a bit."
Ivan Tedesco had a frightening mo-
ment at Budds Creek. The Soaring
Eagle/RCH Suzuki rider fell in the
first turn of moto one and came from
dead last to 19
th
. In the second moto,
he got a better start and was running
just outside the top 10. On the last
lap, Tedesco fell over in a corner and
couldn't start his bike. The exertion
caused him to overheat. "I felt like I
was going to pass out and I started
thinking about Josh Lichtle a couple
of years ago," said Tedesco. "I kind
of freaked out a little bit." Tedesco
was referring to the RedBud National
in 2011 when Lichtle, 23, collapsed
on the final lap of the second 450
moto while trying to restart his bike.
He suffered heat stroke and passed
away early the next morning.
Phil Nicoletti turned in one of his
best performances of the year with
the Toyota/N-Fab/JGRMX Yamaha
rider going 12-8 for ninth overall. "Ya-
maha [JGRMX] bikes were 1-2-3 at
the start of the first moto, and I was
fourth at the end of the lap, but I end-
ed up tucking the front and I had to
come back from about 25
th
or 26
th
,"
Ryan Dungey's win at Budds Creek
could not have come at a better
time for the title contender.
