he [Beaubier] got by he had just
that little bit of gap and I tried as
hard as I could to close it up. And
when it didn't happen, man I was
already wrecked just from trying
to chase the little punk."
Hayes is generally considered
a favorite at Sonoma. He's had
a lot of wins there, including his
first-ever AMA Superbike victory.
"A lot of people have been like,
'man this is your track…'," Hayes
said. "Yeah, it's still hard though.
I was trying as hard as I could.
And, really, honestly, the only
problem I had today was… he
had a name: Cameron Beaubier.
The kid's fast, but I know what
he's riding. So I know how he's
fast. I'm going to go home and
work on it."
Yoshimura Suziki's Martin
Cardenas, last week's Pro Super-
bike winner, finished third. The
Colombian struggled all week-
end and although some Sunday
morning changes made a differ-
ence for the race, an early mis-
take, running off in the chicane,
cost him.
"We improved quite a bit, but
not enough to fight with the two
Yamahas," Cardenas said. "May-
be if I didn't make those mistakes
that I made at the beginning [run-
ning off track in the chicane]…
maybe with Hayes a little bit, I
was running a similar pace than
him. But for Beaubier we didn't
have anything today. He was rid-
ing awesome all weekend. Just
too fast for us. Third was a good
result - all we could do this week-
end. We'll try next time."
Fourth went to ADR Motors-
port's David Anthony, who got
his first ever front-row Superbike
start, qualifying in second, but
unfortunately an out of balance
rear wheel took away his shot to
fight for the lead.
"Yeah, was just huge chat-
ter," Anthony said. "Was a thump
in the rear every time the wheel
