AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES VOL. 51 ISSUE 6 FEBRUARY 11, 2014 P101 Klim-backed 498 RR, he faced a number of challengers the whole race. Bel-Ray/FMF/Moose Racing Husqvarna's Jacob Argubright tucked in behind Burson after the bomb followed by Ramirez, Ricky Brabec, Justin Morrow, Axel Pearson, Skyler Howes, Ryan Smith, Ken Strebel, Tallon Taylor and the rest of the field. Argubright diced with Burson for at least half of the first 51-mile loop, though the bad luck that struck the Husky racer at round one followed him to round two and his FC 450 rattled to a stop before reaching the pit. That left three out front with Burson again at the head of the lead pack even after blowing a turn and losing the course mo- mentarily, Ramirez and Brabec next to latch onto his rear fender. "It was awesome, just going in and out of the bushes trying to get by each other!" Brabec said. "On loop two, we went down a sand wash right next to Trona Road. He was in sixth gear wide-open and I was in fifth gear wide-open - we were tucked going down this sand wash! That's where I bagged him for the lead. I only led for maybe three miles then he bagged me back. Once he did that, I didn't have enough energy to pump through the rocks and I didn't want to risk falling over and breaking the bike." Still, third marked the best Na- tional finish to date for Precision Concepts/THR Motorsports/ O'Neal KX450F-mounted Bra- bec. Ramirez lost time on the first loop when he stopped to fix one of his radiator shrouds that had come loose. "That's when Ricky Briefly... good in a rocky, technical section for her first win in her debut on her new Off-Road Support/Kawasaki of Simi Valley/MSR KX250F. Western Design Racing TM's Pearson settled for second, two and a half minutes (and only two spots overall) behind. (Kearney finished just one second ahead of Ellinger.) Purvines Racing Beta team owner Ron Purvines says he will be going to the Beta factory in Italy in a couple months to meet with management, provide input and try to get additional support for what is the largest team in the series. A reported 74 racers made the Moose Run the best-attended AMA Youth National Hare & Hound Championship Series round to date in California. Only Utah has drawn more riders. (Top left) Ryan Smith repeated his 250cc Expert win from round one, but this time he was also the first Expert to finish with his seventh overall. (Above) Ty Renshaw emerged from the dust to win Open Expert with his 10th overall finish.
