OFF ROAD AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 2/FEBRUARY 9, 2014 SPANGLER HILLS OHVA/RED MOUNTAIN, CALIFORNIA P100 My Own Race: 17 RYAN SMITH 1ST 250CCEXPERT 7TH OVERALL John Burr Cycles/Rick's Custom Shutters and Blinds/ Moose Racing YZ250-mounted Ryan Smith repeated his round one 250cc Expert win and went one better in the overall order, finishing seventh this time. "I got a good jump off the line again this weekend and had a pretty good start," he said. "I was in the top 10 and made a few passes, battled with a few riders and tried to stay with the top guys and came in for another first 250!" He added, "This time off the start I relaxed a lot more and didn't try to fight the bike. I didn't really suffer from any arm pump; I just rode smooth and made no mistakes the whole race. I'm really stoked-- the first two races and [I've got] two wins. It's really helping out my championship hopes." V1X MORGAN CRAWFORD 1STVETEXPERT 8TH OVERALL Morgan Crawford was another repeat winner from round one, the Wilson's Motorcycles of Fresno/SRT Off-road/ Moose Racing KTM 250 XC rider triumphant in Vet Expert once more, though finishing "only" eighth overall this time out. "This was a little more slow going, more whoops," he said. "I got like a four-kick start and I could've swore I was dead last. I was glad I pre-ran the bomb so I got a good line and just kept cutting through, cutting people off. Halfway through that first loop, I pogo-sticked over the bars and I got a handlebar in the ribs, so I couldn't breathe for a little bit. Then I got back on and got going, shook it off. I got a stick stuck in my front brake and locked it shut. I went right over the bars again! Ryan [Smith] passed me so I ended up right behind him." O1 PAUL KRAUSE 1ST SENIOR EXPERT 16TH OVERALL Put Paul Krause's name on the list of repeat winners from round one, "PK" doing the deed in Senior Expert. (He was also 16th overall at both rounds.) The Air Cleaning Tech- nology/Malcolm Smith Motorsports/Shoei KTM rider said, "The last National was just a trail ride the whole time - good rocks, good sections - and you could really go as fast as you wanted or as slow as you wanted and ride. To- day was really silty and dusty in places; you'd have a good section and a dust section, a good section and a little bit of a dust section. We worked all day today; it wasn't as hard as the last one, for sure, but you pounded yourself on some bumps here. It seemed like I'd either ride all by myself or in like a swarm of five guys. We came down this one last, pretty steep downhill - I had to get off and walk a little bit. Someone else got off and walked and passed me then [Dalton] Shirey and [Steve] Kirk went by me. Then [Tucker Larrieu] went by all of us, just riding right down it! It was a good battle all the way back to the finish; it was fun!" (Krause ended up re-passing Shirey and Kirk.)
