AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 6 FEBRUARY 11, 2014 P99
Briefly...
Ivan Ramirez had a close call off the
start when he got a little off-balance
and hit a bush at the same time he
was shifting into fourth. Result? Al-
most looping out. "I was all the way
back [on the seat] and got whisky-
throttle - my right hand was flying off
the handlebar and when I got the
front wheel down I landed with only
one hand and I was squirrelly on the
front, then on the back, so I just kept
going. It's the first time that's hap-
pened so I've got to focus more on
the starts. It's weird!"
Despite the faster course, 250cc
Expert winner Ryan Smith insisted,
"This week definitely favored the
450s because it was really choppy
and the 250s tend to bounce around
a lot more."
Jacob Argubright's two DNFs is
forcing him to reconsider chasing
the rest of the series. Zero points
after two rounds, he reasons, kills
his chances for the championship
and could make it nearly impossible
to match the runner-up in points he
earned last year. What would he do?
Since he won the first round of the
AMA West Hare Scrambles Cham-
pionship Series, he might focus on
that series whose second round is
this coming weekend in Central Cali-
fornia at the Salinas Ramblers M.C.
event.
Runner-up in Women Expert at
round one, Rily Ellinger enjoyed
trading the class lead with defend-
ing class champ Maggie Pearson
for much of the race. In addition,
she found herself battling with John
Kearney who claimed an eventual
fifth Super Senior Expert. Ellinger
prevailed after passing Pearson for
back after 85 miles, while Ricky
Brabec earned his first National
podium with his third on the day.
"I started racing in the desert
about nine years ago and only
started racing [the full series]
three years ago," Burson said.
"It feels great!"
But it wasn't easy by any
means. While Burson got the
holeshot and led at the bomb
on his Motul/GPR Stabilizers/
