VOL. 50 ISSUE 45 NOVEMBER 12, 2013
Over 1000 people signed up
from all over the United States
and even parts of the world to
compete in this year's race. Passionate fans flocked the fences
as best as they could to get a
front-row show of whatever action could be seen, given that
the course ran seven miles in the
natural terrain of Lake Elsinore.
But, the anticipation rested on
Sunday afternoon, when the Harvey Mushman 100-Mile Pro Race
lined up and took off all at once
to have a chance at the $5000
cash purse and become a champion.
"This is my second year, but I
actually built the track so I have
a bit of an advantage," Daniel
Vanderziel, a competitor in the
Mushman race, said. "I got first
overall in the Unclassified race,
but it doesn't really count per se,
but it did to me."
For the past two years Justin
Seeds has taken the overall wins
in the Mushman 100 and 2013
was no different. He is the first
to win three years in a row, and
he defeated the competition this
year by lapping every single rider
except for second place of Evan
Kelly.
"Being able to run this number-one plate in front of people
is the number-one thing," Seeds
said. "I love this race; I used to
do it back in the day when Goat
used to run it and my dad worked
it here and there. Ever since
Heather [Sebastian] and them
[Podium Productions] have been
doing this, they've put on such
an awesome event that's getting
better and better every year. I like
helping out people like that. I love
how family oriented everything is.
Everyone gets to be happy and I
like to see all the kids happy.
"It got so beat out there, all silty
and stuff. It's getting me ready for
the Baja section I have to do, but
I have to do it at night so it's going
to be a little different than what I
saw today. It was good preparation. I wish I didn't have to go to
Baja right away so I could rest
up. I go straight into pre-running
Monday till Wednesday and race
Thursday night so it's been a
pretty long week but everything
should turn out good."
Many other MX, ATV and UTV
classes filled the long two-day
P97
event of racing, which included
unique classes like the Team
Race, Women's race, Vintage/
Evos and Sidecar Racing. The
Team Race welcomed 60 teams
to the track, switching riders every lap. Women were also in spirited force, and the vintage bikes
literally smoked around the track
with the sidehacks, a regular fixture of the Lake Elsinore GP.
Jim McKenzie, one of the
many team riders, said, "The
track was a really nice layout this
year. I did the Unclassified early
in the morning and the track was
really nice; a lot of sand sections,
silt sections, nice high-speed
straightaways. I really like the
new Supercross section they put
in. The most challenging part was
The Vintage
class is always
a hit at the
Elsinore GP.
