record-setting 30 Regional Championships with the AMA/CCS. Perfect fall weather made for excellent track conditions at Grattan Raceway for this final round of Great Lakes and Midwest Regional racing. This race followed a round the previous weekend over at Blackhawk Farms so points battles were close and racing was hot in all classes. Pro rider Jimmy Adamo provided some added competition on his Ducati 888, stealing wins in Heavyweight Superbike and Heavy weight Supertwins? Meister's weekend started off on a down note when his Honda ran out of gas while he was leading the Solo GTƯ race. Meister discovered that the switch for changing to reserve had fallen off and after a quick pit stop he resumed while Les White took thê win with Meister in second. Things began looking up for the dentist with a win in Solo GTO on his big Yamaha while endurance team partner Todd Harring ton finished second, the two crossing the line simultaneously with a high five. Harrington went on to carve his way through a pack of the Region's top Amateurs to win four more races on Sunday, clinching a total of 15 Regional championships in the Midwest and Great Lakes Regions on his American Flyers, !)owners Grove Honda 4 & 6 Cycle-sponsored CBR600 Honda. Meister rounded up four more wins with the final race of the day providing the best action. With $1000 in CCS prize money, $1500 in Yamaha money and nearly $2000 in the Michigan Championships fund up for grabs, the Unlimited GP field left the line with a roar. Adamo had a hard time getting the big Ducati off the line, exactly what Meister needed to get the edge on the 888. Les White jumped into second, soon to be passed by fast Canadian Kevin Graham. Graham and White were soon chased by Adamo and Martin Miller and Larry Cohee. With the help of Yamaha's Tony Tice, Meister's FZRlOOO-powered OWOl ran like a rocket. Adamo closed in the final laps but the Meister kept the power on and took the checkered flag first, winning the Unlimited GP Regional Championship, Michigan Championship and the majority of the purse and Yamaha contingency money. Mike Murphy was the big amateur winner of the weekend taking home four first place awards on his Mid-Àínerican Racing, Street and Competition-sponsored Honda 600. Results EX H/W S/TW: 1.
