ROUND 9 / JULY 16, 2022 PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY / PORT ROYAL, PENNSYLVANIA P80 FLAT TRACK I PROGRESSIVE AMERICAN FLAT TRACK And after winning the '22 opener, Bauman's form dipped even further, finishing off the podium in five of the six following races. At that point, he seemed in danger of being eclipsed by Esten- son Racing Yamaha teammates Dallas Daniels and JD Beach, along with the Mission Roof Systems duo of Brandon Robinson and Jared Vanderkooi, while archnemesis Mees only tightened his grip at the top of the order. The complexion of a season can change in a big hurry, however. He said, "I started off the day struggling; I didn't have great qualifying, and my semi didn't go as planned. But I was able to get a decent start in the main and started catching the leaders. Once I did, we just stayed pre y much evenly spaced, and I couldn't really do anything with them. There wasn't any pass - ing going on. While he's finished off the podium in the last three races, some of his strongest events are directly ahead, and he could prove to be a factor in this year's tle fight yet. He said, "We felt good here. This was a track we struggled at a lot last year. I felt really good the whole day. And then in the main, I think I was running about sixth, and I felt like I was star ng to find a line a li le bit. But then, unfortunately, I caught my toe and twisted my ankle pre y bad. It was sore, and I couldn't really put my foot down, which made it really hard to ride. I s ll finished and picked up some points. We'll go on to the next one." (Above) Back-to-back wins has moved Bauman, up to just eight points behind championship leader Jared Mees. (Right) Jared Mees finished third for the third race in a row.
