firmly in tow. If anything, Bauman was
even more formidable at Port Royal
than he was in triumph at New York,
grabbing control of the race from the
start and never looking back.
The win was both cathartic and
emotional. But it was always des-
tined to be emotional, no matter the
outcome. The Port Royal Half-Mile
was not only the first Progressive
AFT round since the tragic passing
of Ryan Varnes. As fate would have
it, it was also set in Varnes' home
state of Pennsylvania.
In fact, Pennsylvania happens to
be the home of an unusually large
segment of the paddock. That
contingent includes California na-
tive Bauman, who has made the
Keystone State his home and has
become an active member of the
racing fraternity based there.

33 JESSE JANISCH
1ST PRODUCTION
TWINS/6TH SUPERTWINS
Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson's Jesse
Janisch enjoyed what might have been
the best all-around event of his career, TTs
included. Besides his day-long excellence in
Mission Produc on Twins, Janisch turned
heads in the premier class yet again, bat
-
tling his way to an impressive sixth-place
finish. He said, "My day couldn't have gone
any be er. I was fastest in prac ce, qualify-
ing one, qualifying two, won my semi, on
pole for the main, and I won the main. It
was perfect. I think this might have been
my first perfect day in AFT. I don't think I
ever did it at a TT, so it's pre y rad."
15 MIKEY RUSH
5TH PRODUCTION TWINS
Hellipower Racing/Las Vegas Harley-
Davidson's Mikey Rush s ll hasn't recovered
in full from the injury he suffered at last
season's finale. That hasn't stopped him
from reminding the field of his ability, how-
ever, as he picked up his second top five of
an abbreviated '22 schedule. He said, "The
day went well. We made good progress all
day. I made small, li le changes all day, and
I think this track suited me coming off an
injury, not having to put too much weight
on my leg. That was a benefit for me. The
bigger the track the be er. My crew chief,
Dave Atherton, did a heck of a job. He gets
the bikes ready, and they come to the track
pris ne every week. I think we're making
baby steps toward the podium."
