Lowery hoists
the Horizon
Award with
the rest of
the youth
champions.
(Left) Lowery
will turn
professional in
August.
It went well. We had some ups
and downs, but overall everything
turned out great. In the overall
point standings after a four-race
week, I won the 450 Mod and
450 DTX classes and was third
in the 250 Mod and fourth in the
450-Open Singles and with all of
that… that gave me the AMA Horizon Award.
What do you consider your
specialty? Are you better on
short tracks, TTs, half-miles?
I'm pretty consistent across
the board. Being from Ohio we
have a lot of half-miles around
here. I was a little disappointed
when out at Nationals they said
we were going to run two short
tracks, but really it worked out
well. I ended up getting two wins
on the short tracks, one on each
short track race and so it was
good. All week we did really well.
Do you like grooved tracks
or cushions?
Oh I love a half-mile gravel
cushion [big smile]. I mean that's
fun where you can just hold 'er
wide open and just point it and
shoot it. Groove tracks are fun,
though. It becomes
a lot more racy and
it's a lot harder to
pass, which makes
the start more important and such, but
there's nothing more
fun than a Half-Mile
pea gravel track.
So you are going to
turn pro and run some
Pro Singles races this
year?
Yes, August 8th I turn
16 and August 11th is Peoria. So I'll be able to run Peoria and the weekend after is Indy
and then there's Virginia within a
couple of weeks and Springfield
within a couple of weeks, which
will give me a good start this year
and then we're going to try to hit
it hard next year and see what
we can do, see how we hold up
against the big boys.
Have you raced against
some of the riders who race
Pro Singles now?
Yeah, we raced against them
all along. Usually when I'm getting on my bike they're stepping
off. From 85s to 250s it was the
