Republican John Seymour served two years of the term after Wilson was elected governor of California in 1990, but lost the recent election to Feinstein. Boxer was elected to a six-year term. Dirt Rider magazine is celebrating its first decade with a 256-page 10th anniversary issue. At 256 pages, the December issue is the publication's largest-ever. In their review of the past 10 years, the publication names LarrY Roeseler as the off-road rider of the decade and Jeff Ward as the motocrosser of the decade. Dirt Rider was the brainchild of Editorial Director Charlie Morey and Executive Publisher Dick Lague. Morey was a Cycle News editorial staff member from 1974 to 1980, while Lague was formerly the marketing director for Can-Am motorcycles. Papa extends his best wishes and a "job well done" to them .on the occasion of the magazine's 10th anniversary. H&H KTM of Douglasville, Georgia, will host its 10th Annual Weekend South over the December 4-6 weekend. Activities get underway on Friday evening with a party that will be attended by factory reps. A tech seminar will be conducted on Saturday morning by H&H owner Barry Higgins and the KTM tech department. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to test rides on the 1993 KTMs at the Bremen MX and hare scrambles track. On Sunday morning, an off-road riding school will be conducted at Bremen by Allen Gravitt and a special appearance will be made by· 1991 National Enduro Champion Jeff . Russell. The school will he followed by a hare scrambles race along with an AHRMA Vintage Regional MX. For more information, call 404/9201371. It's a tradition at our headquarters office that a "crash trophy" is passed on to the staff member who has most recently been involved in an accident that results in dented metal or cracked plastic. Last Wednesday~ November II, Army vet Terry Pratt celebrated Veteran's Day by getting involved in a head-on collision in Mexico while he was chauffering associate editor Kit Palmer to his starting spot for the Baja 1000. A car was totaled in the accident and Pratt reports that his nearly new pickup truck was a nearwipeout. So, the trophy is sitting on our national advertising sales manager's desk - right? Wrongl It's collecting duston the desk of associate editor Paul Carruthers. Our resident Aus. sie pitched away a Kawasaki lX-II while test riding at Laguna Seca on Thursday, the day after Pratt had his not-so-excellent adventure in Baja. Harley-Davidson reports that in its third quarter (the three-month period ending September 27) the motorcycle division recorded sales of $201.4 million, a $23.5 million/13.2% increase over the yeClf-ago quarter. Operating profit for the motorcycle division was $25.3 million, a 16.2% increase over the previous year's third quarter. Harley's worldwide parts and accessories division had sales of $47.4 million, a 17.8% increase over the year-ago quarter. Frenchman Stephane Chambon (Hus) topped a field of motorcycle racing all-stars in the Guidon d.'Or Superbikers-style event in France recently. Chambon won both races, beating Californian John Kocinski (Hus), Spaniard Alberto Puig (Hon) and Australian Wayne Gardner (Hon) the first day, and then topping Puig and Gardner on the second day. Puig's tally gave him second overall with Gardner third and Kocinski fourth. Frenchman Jean-Michel Bayle (Hon) finished seventh overall with a 12-9 !ally. Owners of dassic Honda motorcycles will have a chance to display their bikes and win prizes at the Honda Rider's Club of America's (HCRA) annual Honda Homecoming which will take place in Marysville, Ohio, next summer on July 21-24. The classic display is geared to coincide with the AMA's Vintage Motorcycle Days in nearby Westerville, Ohio, on July 2425. The Honda of America Manufacturing plant will host the four-day HCRA event and owners of all brands are invited. The ·event will culminate with the Ride for Kids by Honda on Saturday, July 24. All funds generated by participants in the Ride lor Kids are used to fight pediatric brain tumors, the leading cause of death in children by disease. The AMA is offering season-long permanent credentials to riders and crew members who will be participating in Camel Supercross, National Championship MX and Road Race, Grand National Championship, 600 National Championship and Regional Championship Series in i993. Supercross, National MX and dirt track series passes are $400 and road race passes are $500 if paid for prior to January 29 ($500 and $600, respectively, after January 29). Beginning with the 1993 season, the AMA will no longer sell a mechanic license. Paddock passes will be available at registration to any current AMAmember.
