v ICES 0 Letters to the editor INSIDE Godspeed, Ang Shafted sponsor On November 7, American motorcycling lost a large part of its living memories, and oQe of its most loyal friends, Angelo Rossi, at the age of 91. I will always remember when "Ang" went out of his way to personally. mount and deliver a new knobby tire and wheel to my home after I missed his motorcycle shop's Saturday closing time. I was able to ride that Sunday, thanks to Ang: Though both family and friends of Ang believed his time here would conclude as a result of rolling over his truck or tractor on the family ranch, Ang's passing is nonetheless grieved by all who had the treasured experience of just sitting around discussing good times. I deeply appreciated the time spent with Ang and know he will be forever happy riding his Kawasaki 1000 sidecar (with wings). Godspeed, my friend. Apparently there is I)O honor amongst certain racers. In late 1991, I was approached by Jason Langford and his mechanic, Joey Manuel, for assistance in getting Jason a Yamaha sponsorship for the 1992 season. Through my contacts at Yamaha, I was able to get Jason a ride with Noleen Racing. The agreement was that I would furnish the team a Yll25 and Yl250 which would be returned at the end of the season. The rest of the support would come from Noleen. For whatever reason, Jason's season was lackluster at best. However, it was agreed that Jason and Joey would return the two bikes at the end of the season. That has not been done. In fact, phone calls are never returned. We at Central Yamaha have ·completed our end of the bargain. I'm asking Jason and Joey to complete theirs. I'm also notifying anyone who comes into possession of these two bikes (Yl125 VIN JYA4DBWOINA007481, Yl250 VIN JYA4DAW08NA006886) that they are the property of Central Yamaha and should be returned to the dealership. It's unfortunate, but this is the kind of situation that causes dealers to be reluctant to give support to more riders.· Randy Rattaro San R~fael, CA 4ngelo Rossi, a resident of Santa Rosa, California, was the founder of the North Bay M.C.In 1922, he foundedAng Rossi Motorcycles, which has been at its present location in Santa Rosa since 1946. Originally an Indian dealer, Rossi took on the BSA lirie in 1949. Before BSA went out of business in the early 70s, he began selling Kawasaki and Yamaha, brands the dealership sells to this day. Rossi is survived by his wife Virginia, son Don, .daughter Doreen Spellman, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two sisters. Son Don and grandsons Gary and Glenn will continue to operate the dealership ... Editor. Meeting a hero I just attended my first White Bros. World Championship Vet MX. A great job was done by everyone· who put on the event. One person who stood out more than the others was Rex Staten. He has all the time in the world for people at the races. With Rex, you know he is listening to you when you're talking to him. You can just feel it. When I had my picture taken with Rex, it was something special to me. Rex put his arm on my shoulder like we· were brothers. You might be asking yourself why a Vet Intermediate class rider thinks that getting his picture taken with Rex Staten is such a big deal. Well, because in 1976 I delivered a speech in front of my high school sophomore class. The subject of the speech .was Rex Staten and I memorized the speech from an article about him in Popular. Cycling magazine. So not only did I have fun racing at the event, I had the chance to reach another one of my goals meeting Rex ,up close and personal. I'd like to thank H.D. Fowler Co., Wescott Rockeries and Bellevue Kawasaki who made it possible for me to attend the event. Lenny Schwab North Bend, WA David G. Walters President, Central Yamaha Plano, TX Helping hands Thank you to all the team members and support crew personnel who attended the ISDE in Australia. At one of my most disappointing moments, these people took time from their extremely busy vacation! race schedules to visit or call. This was a big help. All ~he cards, letters, visits and phone calls were greatly appreciated. Being in the hospital so far from home is tough, especially when everyone else is out racing. These people, who had to spend a lot of money to go to this event, also took up a collection and the donation helped in what turned out to be a very expensive adventure. Thank you very much and I will . see you all at the link Rancl). in April.
