DESERT SUPER SALE OCT. 28 - NOV. 1 SAN DIEGO CHULA VISTA WESTMINSTER Case conquers Cycleland MX By Michael Rich CHICO, CA, ocr. 3 Brian Case had to overcome a crash 'and some heavy competition from Mike Bennett LO come out on LOp of the 125cc Novice race at the first motocross race of the fall season at Cycleland Speedway. Case and Brandon Grissom were side by side at the start of the first'moto. Grissom went down over the first set of doubles, allowing Harold Sack into second. Mike Bennett misjudged the first turn and started his drive from the back. of the pack. By the second lap, Bennett was up to thrrd behind Sack. On the next lap, Bennett dove under Sack to take over second place. Case had moved out to a comfortable lead and looked set LO run away with the moto. Entering a hairpin, Case lost concentration and went down. Although he remounted in first, the fall allowed Bennett to close substantially on the leader. With one lap left, Bennett was on Case's rear fender. As the two riders came to the line, Bennett went inside 'Case to steal the win by a wheel. Case was again the quickest off the line at the start of the second moto and Grissom was in second. Bennett was last again after getting · stuck in the gate, but he wasted little time in coming through the pack. By the end of the first lap, Bennett was up to third. Just as in the first moto, Grissom came up short · on one of the doubles and crashed, allowing Bennett into second. This time, however, Case did not fold under the pressure and was able to maintain his lead over Bennett. Toward the end of the moto Bennett began to close on Case by doubling several jumps. Bennett's drive came up just short as Case held on to the lead for the win and the overall. Bennett finished second with Sack once again in third. In Mini class action, Josh Giordano came out on LOp of a wild race with Cullen Gibson. In the first race, Giordano moved to the lead followed by Brandon Moakley and Gibson. Gibson passed both Moakley and Giordano LO assume the lead on lap three. On the next lap, Giordano passed Gibson over the double only LO be repassed on the back straight. Giordano was able to dive insi.de Gibson at the line for the win. In the second moLO, both Giordano and Gibson had to move their way through the pack to the front. Once at the front of th~ pack they swapped the lead back and forth two and three times per lap. At the finish it was Giordano with the win and the overall.
