By Jim Fassino BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY, SEPT. 5·6 Gerald Rothman won two races and Dale Quarterly broke Mike Baldwin's 14-year-old lap record at the final round of the GP/Pro road races at Bridgehampton. Taking advantage of a lull in the National schedule, Rothman was trying out an injured ankle, as he hadn't ridden in a month, and he immediately looked on form. He rode his Honda CBR600 F2 to a convincing win in Sunday's Middleweight Superbike race. Quarterley, meanwhile, seemed little concerned about lap records and spent the majority of tM weekend enjoying himself by helping any and all riders with endless lectures about chassis setup, braking, cornering technique and other go-fast secrets. But'when the green £lag dropped for the Sunday Heavyweight Superbike event, all eyes were glued to the watch in anticipation of a record. And none were disappointed, as, within two laps, Quarterley, riding the Team Mirage Kawasaki ZX-7R Superbike, cut a lap of 1:41.11, breaking the old record of 1:41.3 set in 1978 by Mike Baldwin'on a Yamaha TZ750. Quarterley continued to up the pace, turning a best of I :40.16 before his engine expired on the fifth lap. Inheriting the lead, eventual winner Rothman was followed home by local hero Phil Cassot (both of them getting into the previously unreachable 1:42 bracket), Steve Moriarty, Brian Kent and Tom Holcomb. Saturday's money races saw Brian Kent take top honors in Unlimited Supersport on a Honda CBR900RR, and Andy Detherage grabbing the cash in Heavyweight Supersport on a Suzuki GSXR750. ~ Time & Show # 9111 :Northern California Reno, NV Area 11 '30 pm -12:30 am , - Date VVednesday, Sept, 9 H' hlights '85 Rosebowl SX Ig LA Superbowl of MX pm 9112 . 4:00World - 5:00 pm '85 supercross VVednesday,Sept, 30 Finals, LA , For Additiona' ShowS, hanne' ca O'sportsC che~k your local listings, °Sr9O' (4,15) 296- ..P. The Georgian averaged a record 110.669 mph in completing the 57-lap race in just over one hour and 50 minutes, barely fast enough to beat Polen by a scant .182-of-a-second in a thrilling race that featured a little bit of everything - but no pace car. They really don't get any better. After 200 miles, the race came down to a thrilling last lap that saw Russell follow Polen through the chicane before setting himself up to slingshot past the World Superbike Champion just before the finish line. The win was not only Russell's first in the DaytonC!- 200 by Arai, but it also marked Kawasaki's first triumph in the 200, 60 minutes from Motovideo, To Order Videos, Use The Video Order Blank Elsewhere In This Issue Of Cycle News 23
