It was the 2nd Annual Motofest at Palmyra, and the promise of a $5000 Pro purse lured riders from six states. Major sponsors included Malcolm Smith Racing, Tucker Rocky, Scott USA, Motul, Oury Grips, MX Fox and Pro Circuit Racing. In the 250cc A action, Pederson gave chase to Denny Stephenson. Stephenson's career has been plagued by injuries and bad luck, but on this weekend he was a big winner in bot motos. The Omaha native collected $700 for his efforts. Pedersen chased Stephenson in both motos but settled for second, with Kawasaki rider Brian Deegan rounding out the top three. Stephenson was an easy winner in the first l25cc A moto as well, but a first-turn crash in moto number two left him bringing up the rear at the end of the· first lap. Pedersen was an easy winner, but his fourth place finish in the first moto relegated him to second overall behind David Bromund, who piloted his Honda to a consistent 2-2 score for the overall win. It was in the Open Outlaw class that Pedersen finally picked up a well-deserved victory, taking his Honda to two easy moto wins. The Hondas of David Bromund and Carl Hansen followed Pedersen home in both motos. Results BEG: I. John S.evens (SU1); 2. Mike Ricker (Yam); 3. Loren Kellen (Kaw). 60: I. Jeremy Riesenberg (Kaw); 2. Guernsey grabs LACR MX win in prime racing condition throughout the races thanks to timely rain the day before and cloudy, cool weather. Over 200 riders were on hand for the Labor Day event which was a AMA/District-23 race. Bill Enstrom took control early in the moto and went on to win. Hoenk and Aaron Kolb settled in toTecord 2-3 moto finishes. The most action late in the race saw Mike Graif make a last-lap attempt to corral fourth by passing John Oelkers over the doubles. Oelkers forced him wide in the last comer and Graif stalled his engine, allowing Oelkers and Scott SU:inle to take fourth and fifth. Hoenk shot off the starting gate to lead the next moto. Engstrom held second for a while, but Graif displaced him at the finish line jump. Graif closed quickly on Hoenk and tried for a pass around a sweeping left-hand tum. Hoenk drifted wide forcmg Graif into the tires. Roenk stalled a short time later, with Engstrom taking over the lead. Engstrom stalled himself about two laps later, handing the lead back to Hoenk. Scott Steinle started to pressure Hoenk during the closing laps of the moto and nearly pulled off the win over the finish line jump but was judged a few inches short of victory. Engstrom took third followed by Scott Ruegg and Oelkers. Cory Keeney pulled another of his patented holeshots in the 125cc A class. Jason Kempel latched onto second with Pat Donaho giving chase in third. Farther back in the pack were Jim Povolny and Aaron Carlson, who were involved in a dice that carried them through traffic towards the front. Keeney went on for the win with ease, while Donaho pressured Kempel over the last few laps. Coming into the whoops on the last lap, Donaho blasted alongside Kempel and with a charge over the double jump managed to edge out Kempel in the last turn for second. Povolny held fourth by five bike lengths over Carlson. Donaho mastered the start in the next moto with Keeney absent after an incident in another class. Carlson passed Kempel early in the first lap to take control of second. Jarrod Fortune and Tim Pospisil disputed fourth. Carlson reeled in Donaho and took the lead from Donaho as they entered the gully on the far side of the track. Donaho didn't mount much of an attack to retake the lead and Carlson hit the checkered flag with a good lead for the win. Donaho's 2-2 score was good for the overall, though. Kempel held third while a four rider group - Pospisil, Fortune, Mike Luoma and Mike Masters - came through after a battle over fourth place. Chris Stem nabbed the start in the first 125cc C moto, but Cory Corcoran soon cruised by and went on for an easy win. Stem held second at the finish by half a bike length over a determined Denny Edmondson. Todd Koosmann and Joey Olson rounded out the top five. Edmondson led all the way in the second moto with Corcoran and Stem battling over second early and Corcoran crashing late in the race. Stern took second with George Hodkinson putting in a great effort to move up to third. Joey Olson and Chad Wivell took fourth and fifth. Results MICRO MINI: 1. Kyle Schwanl7.en; 2. Bill Krusmark; 3. Pederson busy at Palmyra MX By Kent Taylor PALMYRA, NE, SEPT. 6-7 Labor day honors the worker and during a muddy weekend in Palmyra, nobody labored harder than Iowa's Chad Pederson, as he piloted his stable of Hondas to one Pro class By Scott Hoffman PALMDALE, CA, SEPT. 6 Danny Guernsey powered his Honda to a pair of moto victories to capture the win in the 80cc Novice class at round two of the California Racing Club's Tri-Race Series, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. Richard Powell grabbed the early lead in moto one with Guernsey and Chris Neitzel trailing. Guernsey, by far the faster rider, quickly applied pressure to Powell. Their battle led them away from the pack in no time. Powell was doing his best to hold off the intense charge by Guernsey, but was unable to hold on and on lap five Guernsey flew past him for the lead. Guernsey rapidly pulled away. At the finish, Guernsey crossed the line 10 seconds ahead of Powell. Neitzel, just back from a long vacation from racing, rounde
