Yentler sweeps Sleepy Hollow MX By Brenda Uhrich FREDERICKSBURG, PA, AUG. 2 Jeff Yentzer won four moLOS at Sleepy Hollow MC, LOpping the Open Expert and 250cc Expert classes. Matt Forman led the first 250cc Expert moLO out of the starting gate, followed by Dave Green, Brad Stepp and Mike Bear. Green moved into the lead on lap two and used some good blocking tenchiques to hold the position for three laps. Yentzer was on the gas, though, and blew by Green on a downhill jump. Once into the lead, Yentzer stayed there all the way LO the finish. Bear holeshot the second moto, but gave up the lead to Yentzer by the second lap. Yentzer finished in first, while Bear, Mike Moore and Dave Green battled [or the secondplace spot. Moore secured the position at the finish. In the first moto o[ the l25cc Expert class, Ron Beam led from start LO finish but was pressured heavily by Dave Kratz, Brian Eichelberger and Bear. Halfway through the moLO Eichelberger had moved into second. He made everal attempts to pass Beam, but was unable to get by and settled for the second spot_ Eichelberger had another good start in moLO two but was soon involved in a crash that took out several of the leaders. This left things wide open [or Bear and Beam, who finished first and second in the race, with Beam earning the overall win. Results 28 12, EX: I. Ronald Beam Jr. (Hon); 2. Michael Bear (Vam); 3. Yeager holeshot moto one of the 250cc Intermediate class ahead of Jeremy Harwood, Monty Harris, Scott Sherrell and Eric Rogers. By lap three Yeager had put a IO-second lead on the field. Harris was working hard on Harwood, eventually getting by him in a sandy section. Sherrell was the next to get by Harwood, with Cory Ellis hot on his heels. On lap five, Sherrell took advantage of a bobble by Harris, and garnered second place. As the white flag waved, Ellis crashed out of the race and Harwood muscled by Harris. Sherrell looked ready to claim the runner-up spot until he and Harris tangled near the end and Harwood snuck by the duo [or second place. Moto two was more of the same as Yeager again stole the holeshol and rode to an uncontested win. Harwood held down second, with Harris and Sherrell repeatedly trying to get around him. Yeager's perfect performance earned him the overall, and Harwood held second place for second overall. Yeager [ollowed up his win with another perfect 1-1 overall in the Open Intermediate category. There was a shortage of entries at the event, which forced the combining of th 250cc and Open classes. Thomas didn't seem to mind, however, as the veteran was able to pass the big bikes at will aboard his 250cc Suzuki. In the main, Dave Menser pulled the holeshot and led for the first two laps. Menser did a good job of blocking Thomas, who was forced to dive under him in turn one. Both riders nearly fell, but Menser held his position while Thomas recovered to pass for the lead on 'the front stretch. Menser retaliated for the next three laps in a row, making inside-pass attempts that all resulted in contacL Finally, Thomas got enough of a lead to cover the inside line on the final lap and go on to a well-deserved win. When asked about the contact, Thomas said, "Well, neither of us are intimidated by the other; It was just a good race." Results 85: I. Jason Goodwin (Kaw); 2. Ted Bowling (Hon). 200: I. Harkins hauls at Red Bud MX By Larry Witmer BUCHANAN, MI, AUG. 8 Rick Harkins took his Buck's Cycle/Gearsupported Suzuki to the win in the 16-24 class at Red Bud Track 'n' Trail's MX. As the 27-rider field charged to the first turn, Jason Le\Vis pulled the holeshot ahead of Greg Wegenke, Tim Stender and Harkins. Harkins was on the gas, using Red Bud's high speed straight to pass the leaders by the end of the second lap, and keeping first to the finish. Lewis holeshot moto two, with Wegenke, Brad Hartke, Mike Mensinger and Harkins giving chase. Harkins was unstoppable, passing Mensinger and Hartke on the first lap. Lewis was still leading on lap three, but the pressure of Harkins and Wegenke was too much, and Lewis lost the lead to Harkins after the stepup jump. Harkins pulled away, but Lewis held second to the finish_ Results +25: I. Larry Witmer (SUl); 2. Chuck Hamilton (Kaw); 3. Greg Althoff (Vam); 4. Carl Vargo (Hon); 5. Rjck Gorney (Hon). +30: I. Almost 100 pro and amateur riders signed up to do battle on the clay oval. Tory and his brother, Ben Bostrom, raced to the front of the pack at the start of the Junior main and looked to have things well under control. Tory rode brilliantly, but Ben was passed by Eric Green and Vic McAnally. Green and McAnally charged hard, but never came close to passing Tory for the lead. At the finish it was Tory with the win ahead of Green, McAnally and Ben. The Mini class was one of the largest classes and held two mains, an A and B. The B main win went to Josh Funse, who fell in his heat but bounced back to nde strong in the main. Sheldon Wenz made quick work of the A main over James Mailioux and Jesse Blakeman. Norick Abe won the 500cc main, despite the repeated challenges o[ hometown nder Matt Burge. Nathan Wait moved up to third over Gerald Tenret.
