Surdyke Yamaha/Fredelle Racing/RK Chainsponsored Leivan completed his seventh lap
with a 40-second lead.
"Steve put us in another zip code," said
Caplinger, who passed Hemann on the final
lap to finish second overall and first Expert.
Third overall went to Hemann, whose bike
quit running on the last lap. He lost many
frustrating seconds before finding that the
spark plug wire had come off.
Chris Graber had the lead in the Intermediate class and didn't know he lost it to Tim
Gilliland on the third lap. "I saw him go down
on that big hill, so I took a line over to the
side and passed him in the woods where he
couldn't see me," said Gilliland.
Gilliland put 30 seconds on Gruber by the
end of the final lap.

Sturgis ST win to Jenneman
STURGIS, SD, AUG. 6
Dale Jenneman slipped and slid around the
Jackpine Gypsies M.e. clubg'rounds short
track to earn the biggest chunk o[ the Expert
class purse aboard his Bill Jenneman/H-D
Central/Frontier H-D/Stadium Bar/Frontier
H.O.G.lSmith Signs/Bell/GI Body Shop/
Hastings Honda-backed Harley-Davidson.
The race got of( to a rocky start when Mike
Gresham, Jeff Eklund and Steve Hyson
tangled in the first turn and brought out the
red flag.
Davey Camlin shot to the [ront of the pack
on the restart with Charlie Orr, Tom Colson
and Gresham right behind. By lap three,
Gresham had taken over second.
Georgie Price threw it away in turn one
on lap [our, right about the same time that
Gresham flew into first place. Gresham
couldn't handle the pressure, however, and
tossed as he entered turn one.
Camlin was glad to inherit the lead, but
enjoyed it [or only three laps before Jenneman,
who had worked up after a poor start, [orced
his way past. With that, the finishing order
was set. Jenneman crossed the finish line first,
ahead o[ Camlin, Joe Kopp, Annen and
Eklund.
Don Han rode to an easy win in the 250cc
main. Shawn Russell was a solid second over
Nathan Wait and John McClelland.
Crowd [avorite Elizabeth Kantor won the
125cc main alter a close race with Bret
Millenberndt. Joe Uhler held 0[£ Dave Feist
and Brad Olson for third.
Eric Bostrom got the holeshot in the 500cc
main with Dan Feldhaus holding down
second. Bostrom pulled away while Nathan
Wait and Norick Abe worked their way around
Feldhaus. Wait and Abe continued their battle
to the end, with Wait gaining second.
Danny Han took the lead from the stan
in the Pro-Am main. Kirk Jenneman held
second [or one lap, but Matt Wait slipped by.
On lap fOUT, Tom Sherman got by Jenneman
and the [inal order was set.
Kevin Varnes totally dominated the Junior
main. Eric Green held second all the way,
while Tory Bostrom held third early over Rich
Facciano, J.P. Simonsen and James Hartt.
Bostrom made just enough mistakes to allow
Facciano and Hart by for third and [ounh.
